3D Cursor snapping

In older versions of Blender, when you want to place the 3D cursor in a location you move the regular cursor to the location that you want it to be and then press the LMB. To get a complete location, you do that twice from the front, top or right views.

But in new versions of Blender, that location gets snapped to any objects in that view. While that is great, it removes control from me.

If I am building a car and I want to locate a wheel in the center of the fender, it helps if I can put the 3D cursor to center of the wheel well and not have it snapped to the body. Is there a control to turn this snapping off and on?

Disable “Cursor Depth” in User Preferences -> Interface.
