Across the Rainbow Bridge

Hello,

I’m looking for some comments and suggestions for my current project: Across The Rainbow Bridge.

Ever since I heard this song I wanted to create it.

So here’s what I have so far and I’m looking for some suggestions about lighting and texturing specifically, but any comments and ideas are welcome. Also I don’t like how the lightNing looks at all (on the building)

Also some opinions are welcome (do you like it or not and why).
Looking forward to your replies and if you have any questions, please ask.

Thanks in advance,

Anyone? (What is the general rule of bumping?)

I think the composition is good. My eye is naturally drawn to the moon and the house. Everything is a bit flat though. I might add some rocks and other geometry to break up the textures. The transition from the cobble stone to the dirt appears very sharp. Might wanna try the ivy generator instead of the ivy on the texture for the bridge.

ivy generator? That sounds interesting :stuck_out_tongue:

Yea i need to add some things idd, the environment is a bit boring.

Thanks for the reply

amartin is right, your lighting is flat looking. The problem is that your image has a very limited value range; nearly every part of your image is roughly the same brightness and it lacks any areas of greater light or darkness. Now, obviously there are some times that this sort of “neutral” lighting is desirable, but it does leave a scene without a focal point. Neutral light calls attention to nothing, but leaves no part of the image emphasized, and this is a big dramatic fantasy scene! Gothic cliffs and castles and clouds. Calls for some emphasis and exaggeration, ya know?

So, first suggestion: Pump that lighting! Brighten one primary light source and dim any others. Really get some cool moody shadows in there. It’ll help suggest scale and it’ll create highlights and shadows that will visually define the shapes of your castle.

Hope that helps!

Yea that helps, thanks. I’ll see how I can implement those comments.

Other replies are still greatly valued though.

I would like to share my progress with you and would like some followup critique and comments/suggestions.

I added some trees and bushes, a path plus lights on the sides, some sculpt and material changes and I added brighter lighting coming from the moon and less overall lighting hopefully making the whole scene less flat.

Please let me know what you think.
