Exclusive lights

Hi

So I want to limit what a light hits by making it ‘exclusive’ to a mesh.

Currently I have a mesh and a light on one layer, and another mesh and light on a different layer. Independently when rendered everything if fine.

However when I select both layers, in the final render the lights are affecting both meshes so basically the result is over-bright.

Is there any way to continue the lights exclusivity even when multiple layers are selected? The help points at light groups assigned to materials, but that doesn’t seem to be in 2.73a anymore.

Thanks!

You can’t really do that in Cycles, and light groups are Blender Internal exclusive and still present as far as I know.

You would need to create two render layers at least. then you can set each to render only that layer and exclude the other.

Then use the compositor to recombine them using either an alpha over or adding them. You can use an Color mix node set to add instead of alpha over if the background of the one you want to add over the other is completely black.

Hope this helps.
