Creosoted timber?

Does anyone know of a good shader to represent creosoted timber?

Specifically, I’m looking to represent wooden railroad crossties. Most railroads use rough-sawn 10"x8" timbers, heavily treated with creosote. This is the same preservative used on telephone poles. It starts out a dark redish-brown, then weathers, first to flat black, then to medium gray.

Moved from “General Forums > Blender and CG Discussions” to “Support > Materials and Textures”

one way would be to find some nice wood image on web and use it as UV map !

un any case creosote is not sue anymore this was like 50 years ago !

Try again:

“Coal-tar creosote is the most widely used wood treatment today”

Also, I may want to model something that existed 50 over ago.

then try to find some old wood on web and use it as UV image!

try at CGtexture might find something
