photo printers and ink

The ink smears on photos from my printer. I have wasted so much money and feel deceived. A photo printer with ink that is not permanent!!?? They have many terms for the inks but I do not know how to tell what is good and permanent.
I have been looking at this one. DNP DS80 http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/770288-REG/Dnp_DS80_DS80_Professional_Portrait_Photo.html
How do I know what to buy? Im looking to do this to make photos for sale.
Any good advice will help.
Thanks

Now I found something.

Maybe I’m the only on that has a problem with inkjets. Do you have a ink jet? Does not the ink rub off your photos?

I do not have an ink printer at all (I have a b/w laser printer) so I can’t really help on that.

As far as I know such things also depend on the media (paper) you print on. Did you let the ink enough time to dry?

Yes on gloss paper it will rub off after years.

Even real photo’s aren’t forever.
Just print them put behind glas, or a real photobook.

And dont touch !, watch with your eyes not your fingers !!
Well I used to shout it to some people and then explaining them how to hold photo’s in your hand, in the age when photos where still a complex chemical trick.

HP has a type a paper where their ink will dry instantly. This means you can stack them on top of each other with the picture on them and there will be no stickiness.

I also think I’ve heard of some newer printers which are designed for printing onto canvas materials (for that authentic art feel, a bit more expensive though)

With the inkjets and I think maybe fore sure the laser printers, the in is not permanent. If you print a colored document on regular paper it will soak in the paper and be durable. As for photos these printers are very very low quality matte is better then gloss. You buy good paper and put on it water based ink that will rub off if damp. The extremely high cost of ink and paper it is around 2 bucks for a 8 x 10 on all these printers. That’s my guesstimation but it is close. If you need a scanner and documents or a fax, good get one. These are no good for photos. Spend a few extra dollars and take them to them drug store and get prints or buy a $1300+ dollar printer.
