Compositing a Blender Render and Cycles Render Scene

HI Folks -

I have a scene for which I am using cycles (Blender 2.72) to render, but I want to get a volumetric light effect using the the halo modifier on a spotlight, using the blender renderer.

I have created a copy (full copy) of the scene and change to blender render for the copy, wherin I implement the spotlight.

When I composite together the halo light into the render of the scene using cycles, the entire scene appears “washed out”. I believe I have a masking problem for the light, based upon how the model created with materials in cycles is behaving when copyed and switched to blender render.

I have tried applying a default black (zero diffuse.spectral) material in the blender render model, but no difference.

I’m not able to get the effect I want using cycles volumetrics, so I’m looking for any guidance on what I’m missing here. I’
