Piggy and Moo game tiles

I’m working on an educational game. Hexagonal tiles, stuff animal characters. All of it will be pre-rendered in blender cycles orthographic view. The game will be written in Haxe, probably OpenFL + Flixel.

So, I’ve done some work on the game.

The water looked flat and more like stone than water when rendered alone for game tile purposes. I added more peaks (waves and ripples through a displacement modifier) to show off more gloss/specularity to make it look more like water.

The grass got greener and thicker. The grass is from Andrew Price’s grass tutorial, the free one from his Grace Essentials kit. At this distance, I might not have needed realistic grass models and a simple hair might have done the trick, but I like the grass as it is now.

The house was changed to be more like a typical house and not a hexagon. I added windows on both sides of the house, but still have to decide what texture to use. Thoughts on what the house should be made of? I was thinking brick.

I also have the walking animation mostly working, I’ll post a gif next week or so.

Thoughts? Comments? Criticism?

I recently polled social media with the following asking for what money should look like in the game.

The button won. The star will be used in the game in another capacity. The coin might be useful at some other point, or in another game somewhere. Here’s the button, a little more finished, in four different colors (for four different denominations) and rendered for animation in the game:

So, I’ve modeled and textured some bad guys for the game.

What do you guys think about them?
