Wesley's (demsugar) Sketchbook

Hello guys,

It’s been a long time since my first (and only  ) post on blender artist forum. So i am gonna start a sketchbook to show what i am working on.

Hope i’ll have crits to hel me grow.

Soon

This is the lastest project i was working on to try Non sub-div Modeling techniques.

Very nice modeling. Thanks for showing all those wireframes.

Hi, great modeling, I like it a lot

Thanks guys for your comments. I will post now every week on Sunday at 6pm WIP of projects i am working on.

This is my next project the wrangler rubicon 2013. I really love this car. The front part is challenging because it appears simple but it is much complex as i imagine it.

This part is really an issue.

Hello guys,

Sorry for the lack of update to be honest i completly forgot to update here and a friendly member remind me that thank you. This is the final model of the Jeep. I made lots of screenshot of my modeling on 3DT unfortunatly didn’t do the same here. I’ll rendering it soon.

Here we go Iron man

Wip wip. The head is much more complex than i thought.

By the way i start studying cycles by taking a course on Vray (Whaaat???) by Grant Warwick (F***ing awesome dude) combine with blenderguru and cgcookie. It really forces me to go deep into understanding how materials work how to apply the principle of another rendering engine and i love it. This is what i done so far: Gold, plastic and a green plastic toy where i failed miserably .

Great sketchbook! I can learn a lot from your modeling skills, I’m not really good with hardsurface

EDIT: I was also checking out that V-ray course to apply it to Cycles, is it good?

I think because it forces you to learn more about your engine to get the same result. Because the tendency for me was to follow the step by step like a monkey and don’t understand the subject matter. And the v-ray course explained in depth the physics of how materials works and by going into the advanced setup of vray understand the purpose of AA and stuff like that. But you have to follow site like cgcookie and guru to understand the engine in a technical point of view. The blender encyclopedia in Andrew’s site is just awesome because the blender manual isn’t complete enough for artists.

Thanks for your comment i’m still learning it and try to model as fast as i can. I changed completely the keyboard shortcut of blender allows me to have all my keys on my left hand so i don’t need to move it. I’ll post a sheet soon. If i can help you no problem man ask me anything.

Iron man shader. This one dive me headache but i get close i think. Original ref here. Tine to go to bed.

I did a LookDev workshop with Noah Vice some time ago, the guy who created the material for the first IronMan suit. I’m pretty sure he said it had two spec layers, one a broad spec highlight and the other a much tighter spec highlight over the top.

Did you mean like this ?

I think that looks closer to the reference. Nice work.

Thanks. I think the bump map is a little bit too strong than the ref.

Hello guys. Continue on my shaders study. Watch yesterday the hot rod tutorial on Kent. This is my result. I struggle to get close from the specular reference.

I put a diffuse red panel on the left to simulate the environnent of the photo.

Nice shaders!

If you haven’t yet, you should check this guy youtube channel (CynicatPro); he explains all the physical based shading stuff in a very clear way and has tutorials to create a base node group that can be used almost for any material.
