Planet Explosion-Cycles vs Blender Render Issue

I’m animating a planet exploding and a shockwave to go with it by mixing a few tutorials: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mtSbZtPO_2w

Unfortunately, the planet bursting uses the cycles render while the shockwave uses the blender render. The shockwave is just black in cycles render and the planet is invisible in blender render. I’m not very knowledgeable in what the different renderers do, only that different tutorials use different ones and it’s causing issues.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Since Cycles and Blender Internal are 2 different renderers, they use different materials. Therefore you cannot render cycles materials in Blender Internal, and vice versa. Your best bet would be to convert the materials into a single renderer (probably cycles would be easier). There are automatic tools to do this (can’t remember which ones, so you will have to search).

Any of these tuts produce rendered images so that you have results, there are no issues so far.
What’s left is to combine - composite images in Blender’s Compositor which you have to do now as a next step. Make sure you actually render image sequences, not movie, from each tutorial and use Image input nodes in Compositor.

Thank you for your prompt replies, although It’s taken me a while to get back to working on this. I’m going to look into converting blender render into cycles and if that fails try to learn some compositing. I’ll update when I get this finished.

UPDATE: BiggR, I downloaded a tool to convert blender render into cycles materials. Unfortunately this doesn’t do anything for the shockwave as the halo material it uses is unavailable in cycles. I’ll look into compositing…

Thanks for your suggestions, placing the shockwave into another scene (that used blender render) and keeping the planet in cycles render and then compositing them together works.
