* Edit: All internship positions have been filled, so this is now closed. Thanks to everyone who applied! If anyone is still interested in applying, feel free to send me a link to your portfolio/reel (either in a comment or PM). I’ll file it away for when we open up internships again in the future.*
Hi! I’ve recently started a 3D asset creation business called Vengeful Elephant. I am looking for skilled Blender artists to join the business as part-time, unpaid, remote interns. While we can’t offer to pay our interns at this time, you will be more than welcome to put any assets you help create on your demo reel, and when we begin hiring we will start by hiring our most accomplished interns first. Also, all assets we create during your internship will be given to you for free for use in your own non-commercial projects.
A description of the business:
Vengeful Elephant is a brand new independent CG studio, headed by an experienced 3D animator and digital artist. We aim to create appealing, useful, and affordable 3D assets for the students and hobbyists in the CG community. Our asset creation studio is different from many others in that we focus more on original character/creature rigs, rather than just on stock rigs/models.
Here are my qualifications:
I’ve been working with 3D graphics for 6+ years. I attended the Savannah College of Art and Design and the Academy of Art University. I’m an Animation Mentor alumnus. I worked as a freelance 2D animator for 3 years, making animated graphics and music videos for clients worldwide. Here’s my animation demo reel and my 3D models/rigs on TurboSquid (the oldest rig is the great white shark, the newest is the rhino).
What types of interns I’m looking for:
I am looking for skilled Blender artists that are either modelers, texture artists, riggers, or a combo of those skills (generalists). I am not looking for animator specialists or lighting/rendering specialists at this time. You must use Blender. I use Sculptris for sculpting, but if you have ZBrush/Mudbox, it’s fine for you to use that. Photoshop is not required for texture artists. Gimp or Krita are fine.
What interns will have to do:
- Communicate effectively with the director and the team.
- Be good at taking and applying critiques.
- Adhere to naming and scene organization conventions.
- Modelers will have to assist with model creation, either from scratch or from partially worked models. They may be asked to retopologize sculpts.
- Texture artists will have to UV unwrap and texture models, and apply the appropriate materials for best results in Cycles.
- Riggers will have to rig characters including human bipeds, animal quadrupeds, anthropomorphic characters with digitgrade legs, and multi-limbed monsters. It’s fine to use Riggify, but you will need to know how to add onto/adjust a Riggify rig for non-humanoid characters.
- Generalists will have to do a combo of 4-6.
How to Apply:
Please comment below with the following information:
- Your skill(s) (modeler, texture artist, rigger, generalist).
- A link to your demo reel/portfolio. If you are applying to be a modeler intern, I will need to see wireframe images. If you are applying to be a texture artist, images of the UV maps are appreciated, but not required. If you are applying to be a rigger, I need to see the final rig in action in an animation or screencapture rig example video.
- Feel free to tell me a little bit about yourself/your history with Blender, post a resume if you have one, etc. This is NOT required. All I really need to see is your reel/portfolio.
Again, this application is for an unpaid, part-time, remote internship. As a result, work hours are very flexible.
I will reply to applications in private messages telling you if you have been accepted or not.
