unwrap chaos

hello fellow blender Junkies
A friend of mine made this piece in solidworks and asked me if it was possible to put a nice equal geometrical pattern
on the outside ( highlighted) surface of this… as Solidworks makes triangle faces in the most myterious ways this Job
really Looks like a P I T A to unwrap and have nice equal and similar quads for later adding displacement ( trough mapping)
all suggestions wellcome…

this one seems to be a hot potatoe…:confused::confused:

Just take a few minutes to clean up the mesh rather than waiting days in the hope of a magic bullet turning up

Alt+M = merge selected vertices
X = dissolve vertices
X = limited dissolve
X = dissolve edges
Vertex snapping with auto merge enabled

Then split up or remesh the resulting ngons if you need to
In the unwrap you can stitch any islands together if you want
