are there resources showing how to control blender on a mac book pro keyboard? I guess the main difference is lack of a numeric keypad, as opposed to the desktop mac.

- Emulate Numpad (number keys used in place of the numpad keys)
- Emulate 3 Button Mouse (MMB -> Alt+LMB)
- Use a mouse in place of trackpad
you can tell Blender to treat the standard number keys as Numpad keys. Just check Emulate Numpad.
As a fellow Mac user I strongly recommend that you go and get a cheap external numpad and a real 3 button mouse. You should be able to find a good numpad for around $15, and it will make Blender much, much easier to use.
Get a numpad and a real mouse (not the apple mighty mouse or whatever they’re calling it now). Save yourself a world of frustration.
