Modeling a fishnet shirt

So, I have this idea in mind, I want to model a character (like a mannequin) wearing a fishnet shirt. How would i go about doing this. The best way I could think of is to subdivid a cube (or whatever) make a lattice out of it, and model it from there.

for those who don’t know what a fishnet shirt is -

Well, you could simply model the shirt out of a cube with good topology and not so many details then add a wireframe modifier or a skin modifier to make the fishnet around the edges.
You can also use a cloth simulation to make it look more realistic.
