Making a river

Hi I’m on an iMac running Yosemite and Blender 2.71

I select a plain
add a modifier (Ocean)
Then in physics I select fluid.

But when I press play the ocean stays solid and won’t simulate.
The same happens when I try quick fluid. The square is water but it stays solid.

Can anyone tell me where I’m going wrong

Two things are wrong here:

  • trying to use a flat mesh to get some fluid simulation going, the simulator expects a mesh that has volume to be able to generate and advect a level set from it;
  • trying to simulate the river by means of an ocean modifier coupled with a fluid simulation;

The approach that you were using when posting your previous thread is the good one.
