How would I like to Model better.

Lately, I have been trying to model Characters. I have heard of modeling with edges (tracing the background image with edges; then filling in the blanks); are there any good tutorials on this? I have attempted this a few times, but I can’t always get eyes, forehead, and extruding the lower jaw into the back of the head and still have enough room for the neck and ears. Another problem I have is the front of the head is, somewhat, triangular (from the top view) and the back is squarish. The third and last problem I would like to mention is how do I fill the inside of the mouth?

Thanks.

First, Even if you do not take up a pen, find some books on fundamentals of drawing, A little bit here goes along way! Once you know what does and does not look right solutions will be much more likely to happen, I would troll though Deviant Art for how to draw tutorials if you want to do that on the cheep. I’m going to drop down some links i’ve worn out while i was (And still very much am) learning how to model a character. Although proportional edit when in perspective mode (num pad 5) is your friend. And the smooth brush from the sculpting option is very nice too.
