London Fischer - "Making Of" Blog

I’ve been using a concept image for London Fischer in a lot of my promotional material for the Earth: Primeval Series, and now have cast a real model to play her in the movie. She thought it would be fun if I showed the process of how I actually ‘build’ the digital version of her…I tend to agree. So I’ve started a blog on our page that goes through the general steps taken to create one of our biggest cast members.

We’re now 9 steps in, and her body modeling complete. In the next step we’ll work on the skin texturing process.

I hope you’ll follow along and enjoy my process. I’m got as naturally gifted like some on this site, and the method I’ve come up with works great for me. If you’ve had a vision but have been frustrated that the end-result hasn’t come out like you envisioned, possibly this series might help you overcome those obstacles. Your feedback is more than welcome  Hope you enjoy!

For those interested, finished step 2 late yesterday, showing the process of using the skin modifier to create her base mesh.

Step 3 should be done later today, where I use Dyntopo to resculpt the base model

Now that the skin modifier has been used to create the basic skeletal form, I used Dynamic Topology sculpting to block out the rough details, creating a sculpted base that will be retopologized.

You can see Part 3 now, ‘Sculpting the Base Mesh, Dynamic Topology’

Part 4 (retopology) coming soon!

I’m a little behind on updating…steps 4 and 5 are both now completed and she’s starting to take shape.

In step 4, I retopologized her base sculpted model, and in step 5, I defined the shoulders, arms, and hands.

If you’re interested in our project, please follow along and see how we make one of our most beloved characters, London Fischer

With Step 7 now complete, the ‘body’ portion of the modeling is finished. Moving onto the Face and Head in step 8, then we will begin modeling her armor, weapons, an equipment.

Finished the retopology step on her head and face. Next up, we’ll do a lot of refining of her facial features and add those subtle (or not so subtle) details around her lips, nose, and eyes.
