How to create a Kaleidoscopic, fractal, abstract effects?

Is it possible to create a mesh Kaleidoscope with glass and mirror materials, and light settings to get a realistic kaleidoscopic effect?

Are there any plugins for blender to help create fractals?

Technically you could, but you’d be waiting years for your renders since a lot of the effects of a Kaeidoscope comes from caustic effects.

That’s unfortunate :frowning:

just a bit of exageration Matt

here’s an example, three mirrors, and one particle system, with glossy bounces set to 50:

it took 1m23s to render in my old computer with no GPU acceleration.

That’s not really “Kaleidoscopic” though. A real Kaleidoscope effect relies on an outside light source and heavy refrected and reflected lighting. That’s just mirrored colors.

the basic principle of the kaleidoscope are the mirrors, and the reflection between them. That’s quite easy for cycles.

Of course, in a good kaleidoscope, the beads and all the stuff inside can be more complex, but i’ve seen more simpler kaleidoscopes with just some pieces of colored plastic.
