One question about modelling techniques.

Hi all! I have a quick question to a real blender artists  Hope, you can help me.

So, I have a shape of a toaster’s case. It’s ok and it looks very good - just as I need. This shape is a result of a subsurf modifier. And if I’ll create one more loop cut - this shape will be changed by modifier and I don’t need it.

this is my shape.

And what I need is to create a small round hole on it’s side (and, honestly, more than only one hole  ), as I’ve marked on a reference photo. As you can see on reference - this hole is a bit extends off the case, has it’s own width and goes back under this case. So the *meter inside of it looks like it’s in a real hole.

And I have NO IDEA how to make it, every time I try - subsurf changes the shape of a case. And this problem actualy happens very often :frowning: So, please, tell me what to do?

If you want - you can download this shape and images from here: http://1drv.ms/126g6No and show me how to solve my problem.

Many thanks in advance!

Looking forward to your answer!

@eppo,Thank you very much! That’s seems to be exactly what I miss. I just thought that applying subsurf modifier is always a bad idea
