is there a way to recover from broken x symetry

Well, besides cutting my model in two and do a mirror modifier operation (and loosing texture stuf etc).
Are there other ways to re-sync a mesh so that left and right become mirrors again ?.

It shouldnt have happened but somewhere in the middle of working with a model the symmetry got lost

Yes. Edit mode, W -> snap to symmetry. If it’s too far off, then you might need to force the symmetry and could use W -> symmetry for that.
