Need to model Light Emitting Diode

Hi, I am new to Blender, just downloaded 2.7x with Blenses
I am working on a project to see if blender can be used as a simulation tool for machine vision.
Workflow:
1 Import 3D cad into Blender
2 Create camera setup in blender
3 Create light setup in blender
4 render and analyse results.

for this I need to model the light source I use in the real world as accurate as possible.
The source is a LED and I would really like to know how to create a LED with the real world light properties.
For instance is it possible to use the ray trace data from the LED manufacturer to create such a LED?

Regards

Neither BI or Cycles has the ability to use real lamp IES data for a lightsource (you can however approximate it in Cycles using some vector, math, and ramp nodes).
