I’m practing rigging a finger. I don’t understand why it’s deforming this way.
I’ve selected the UV groups manually and assigned each of them. I got it to work once but I didn’t save it, I’m trying again and I keep getting what you see above. I’m showing you the weight paint even though I’m not going to be doing any weight painting because I’m just assigning a weight of 1 manually.
What’s going on?

I think red means about a value of .5, and it should be closer to 1, so my guess is it’s a weighting issue. I could be mistaken of course.

Recheck the scale and rotation of your objects and if it’s not:
Scale: 1:1:1, and
Rotation: 0:0:0,
that will likely be your problem.
EDIT:
If that’s not it, you’ll have to post your .blend file so someone can take a closer look.

Thanks. It’s still not working. I’ve attached the file.

Your finger mesh faces are flipped inside out. Correct that. Then redo the parenting and weighing.

Thank you!!! I should have tried that. I brought this mesh over from Zbrush. Usually things like that happen.
