How to texture paint without symmetry ?

Hi guys, I am still very new to using 3D software, so my knowledge is still not amazing. My problem is, I have been sculpting in Sculptris and I have also applied the texture painting in Sculptris. If I import the texture map with symmetry included it translates to Blender fine. As soon as I turn symmetry off the texture ends up going very odd, like it is not mapped to the sculpt. Could anyone be kind enough to explain why this happens and is there a way around this ?
