Blender 2.72 - Intersect

All I’ve been getting (doesn’t matter what):

“no intersections found”

I must be the ONLY one getting this, a search
for it finds nothing.

So, step by step, what’s the proper procedure
so at least I know I’m doing what SHOULD (does?)
work?

EVERY Youtube video I’ve looked at suggests it’s
simple.

Obviously I’m doing something wrong, missing something.

So, I give, WHAT am I missing?

When I think I’m doing the exact same thing, I’m not getting
the same results.

The intersect mode defaults to selected/unselected, it means that everything being selected wouldn’t give anything to check against.

Change the mode type to check for all intersections and you should get results.

Thanx.

More ignorance.

When I look at the Intersect tool,
the options are:

“Select/Unselect”

or

“self intersect”

When you say:

“Change the mode type to check for all intersections”

Where is that?

Single cube:

“Shift D”

Intersect
(Selected/Unselected OR self intersect)

“No intersections found”

Shift-A

Mesh / Cube

Intersect
(Selected/Unselected OR self intersect)

“No intersections found”

Intersect

Sort of works but, Connected.

If I delete “Faces” that works, but, not
as shown in every tutorial I’ve looked at
and quite a bit more work.

“Duplicate” also doesn’t leave much room
for NOT using a cube, say an “Icosphere”
instead.

I’m using Linux at home - Blender x32.

At work I’ve installed Blender on my Windows PC.

Same problem.

Not sure if it’s a Blender problem or user problem.

Not sure what else to try.

Thanx for the input.

Just use booltool. It’s infinitely more flexible anyway.

BoolTool - “Difference”

2 seconds. Done.

Forgot about BoolTool.

Thanx

Yeah…and if you didn’t quite place your intersection object in the right place, you can move it around non destructively. Plus you can undo it if you change your mind further down the road. Truly one of the best addons ever created in my opinion. Having said that, it’s still pretty annoying when you can’t get blender’s internal tools to work in the way you want. I completely understand your frustration.

Right tool for the job. Intersect is a low level modeling operator, but it certainly has its uses. I’m sorry you were having difficulty with it, I’ve had a lot of good experiences with it.
