World - "Image or Movie" texture type - GLOBAL coordinates

When I set image to world texture with GLOBAL coordinates + enable “Environmental Lightning” in world properties panel as “Sky Texture”, than this texture is projected from top view also on all objects in a scene, even they have no material.

Texture is placed on global coordinates = zero, size of two units (like default plane).

Wiki has no more info, and blender tip says “…useful for interior mist” how does this works?
Thanks for help.

That type of image projection should be mapped to Equirectangular. You’ll also want to turn on Extend in the image mapping settings because the edges of the image itself are a bit artifact-y.

I know … my question is related to GLOBAL - why it is projected on each object when this texture is for world setting?
And why blender tip says “…useful for interior mist” ?
