Unwanted autokeys in 2.72

Prior to 2.72 navigation from within the camera view with ‘lock camera to view’ enabled and autokey on simply moved the camera. This is with user prefs set to ‘only insert available’ and ‘only insert needed’.

In 2.72 doing the same will insert keys on the camera into empty transform channels. This only happens when navigating via the camera, not when transforming it from the user views.
Is this a bug or a new design decision? If so is there a way to disable it?

Similarly, an object with loc and rot keys already in place will add unwanted keys when transformed at another time. That is, rotating an object at another frame will insert rotation keys as expected, but also insert location keys at that frame. This is with prefs set as above and keying groups turned off.

It’s not a huge issue but it’s annoying behaviour that interferes with workflow. Does anyone have any ideas on this?
