Divine Warfare, an ancient/fantasy game - seeking a ruins designer

Hello guys,

we are a team of 10-20 people (depending on activity) who have been planning an ancient/fantasy game since April. There is supposed to be a special ruins location and we are looking for a designer with an appropriate amount of imagination to create it without concept art.

In case of your interest and further questions, please contact me at [email protected]

You should be familiar with:

  • modelling of (as much as possible) low poly meshes,
  • materials and texture mapping, normal/bump maps,
  • decimation for various levels of detail.

You don’t need to be expert in rigging and animation, but it may come handy.

What we can offer:

  • Collaboration on an interesting project.
  • Experience with game development related 3D art.
  • Reference - you can, of course, expose your artworks made for the game as your own. Specially this location could make a very interesting piece of your portfolio.
  • Introduction to the Unreal Engine 4 and level design - you will be able to compose the meshes in the whole ruins location according to your imagination, we believe that this freedom leads to great results.
  • Experience with Unreal Engine 4 at all - good UE4 artists and level designers are pretty wanted.
  • Collaboration with an enthusiastic team.
  • Possibly a long term and later paid collaboration.

Quick facts about the project:

  • Status: testing workflows.
  • Unreal Engine 4 (subscription).
  • Planned platform support: Windows, Mac, Linux (and we are still thinking about Android).
  • Planned language support: English, French, German, Spanish and possibly Russian.
  • Number of team members: around 20 (including a writer, translators, all the artists, game devs and web devs).
  • 150 subscribers (although we have not released a single screenshot yet).
  • SpeedTree modeller :stuck_out_tongue: http://speedtree.com
  • Approximate time to release version 1: 9 months.
  • Collaboration tools: Redmine (issue tracking, roadmap, wiki, internal forum and asset storage), HipChat (real time team communication).

How do we imagine the ruins? The story of the ruins is about an ancient town (should be around 1 km square), which has been abandoned from day to day. The denizens of this town were mastering a kind of energy/power giving them various extra abilities and the knowledge has been forgotten due to war. Structures should be heavily damaged and surrounded by foliage. There should be glowing symbols all around the walls and altars (depending on how we think out some interesting materials - UE4 is full of great options). No technology, just a mystical energy all around the place.

We have already created a font for the symbols, you can try it out here: http://mk.e0.cz/s/dw/dwas/index.html

And how should symbols and other things glow:

I can’t say that I’ve ever made ruins, or worked with the UE4, but I am interested in seeing what I can offer. The closest thing to ruins that I’ve ever built is this abandoned WW2-era factory (UDK):

FactoryLevelSheet.pdf (1.03 MB)

Bear in mind that the above was never actually completed.

You can consider this my current portfolio. If you wish to contact me, send an email to [email protected].

It looks like the first post just disappeared after my attempt to correct a link. Here it is:
