Use Node not always an option?

I have my Bender 2.71 set up to use Cycles by default. When I try to add materials to an object, I don’t always have the option to use nodes. One scene I setup I got the nodes to show up and work, but when I loaded it at a later date, and attempted to look at the setting under Node Editor, there was nothing there. It is frustrating. I am new at Blender.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

got file sample for this error!

in cycles when you add nodes it is there !
unless you change the window mode may be!

Here is the .blend file that I had nodes set up on and now appears to be gone.

I am also aware that there are way too many materials setup in this file. I haven’t figured out how to delete the ones that I messed up on.

Thanks.

some how the type of node editor is not selected where usually its on shader/ material first

sorry I open it up with my own set up
and everything is ok !

try to open a new window to show nodes set up
and it will show all cycles nodes

try to open my file here

fileex1.blend (86.3 KB)

also you should set the compress file when you save it
will take a lot less space!

Your file worked. So… Should I reset Blender defaults. Save it. Then make the changes I like in Blender (example: rendering information, theme…)

might be a good idea to have a clean default file with proper set up!
