Unusual baking problems - need help

Hello everyone,
I’m having some trouble with the normal baking feature in Blender. I have been trying to bake a normal map of a sculpture using the bake function in the regular Blender Render engine but every time that I try to I get the usual, ‘no object or image to bake to’, error. Except for the fact that I HAVE created a texture and correctly selected the objects.

Is there any error in my process?

  1. Open Blender, import high-res sculpture obj and retopo mesh obj (already has UV)
  2. Create new image for normal baking
  3. Select high-res object, then also extend selection to low-res object
  4. Go to bake settings and change mode to normal, and enable, ‘selected to active’
  5. Click bake

Trying this again with the Cycles engine and a properly set up material. Will half bake the normal map. It appears with huge jagged holes and patches everywhere. Which is why I’m sticking with the internal render engine for baking.

I have tried following guides EXACTLY as they show and I still get the error.

Any help would be appreciated as I’ve been pulling my hair out with this for at least 6 hours now.

  1. Create new image for normal baking
Did you just create a new texture or did you create a new one with the UVs selected
