GTX 660Ti faster than GTX 980???

I upgraded to a GTX 980 for quicker render times, but it seems just as fast or slower than my old GTX 660ti…

for example i rendered a scene using 7500 samples and it took 54 minutes with my GTX 660ti
Now i render the same scene using 7500 samples and its taking 59 minutes with my GTX 980

why isn’t the 980 faster??

Hi, Blender 2.72 does not even support new Maxwell cards, what do you use.
System specs, driver would be also interesting.
Here is a spreadsheet with all interesting cards, also link to a Blender version with native Cycles kernel for GTX 970/80 cards. Benchmark file is in first post.

Why is that, it sounds completely crazy, as Maxwell is the best Compute cards since the gtx 580, whos fault is this Nvidias or Blenders ?

Hi, the GTX 980/70 come out short before Blender 2.72 Release, not a good time to change the build environment for software.
So nobody´s fault, timing was bad.

Cheers, mib

I’ve made up my mind that I’ll go for the Gtx 980, I would say it’s like a fast graphics card, which I saw some recommendation from other thereads

And here comes a reviews http://pcgamerhome.com/nvidia-geforce-gtx-980m-vs-880m-comparison-whats-the-difference/

Hi there! I was thinking on getting a GTX 970, but was advised about this issue. Seems like with the 2.73 release there’s support for the 9xx series. Can you confirm?

support for Geforce 9xx Maxwell cards

Sorry to bring up an old thread but I got a new computer with a GTX 980 ti to replace my aging computer with a 660 ti and upon rendering a scene with SSS the 980 ti took almost 9 minutes while the 660 ti took slightly over 5! Are there still issues with support for these cards?

Ran a scene without SSS and the 980 ti was almost twice as fast. So that’s good.
