Motion Blur in Cycles

Hey guys,

I am just experimenting with rendering with motion blur, and I’m running into what I think is an issue with motion blur.

Basically, any value under 2 makes everything disappear. The problem is setting the blur value to 2 makes things a bit too blurry for what I want.

Value set to 1.99:

Am I doing something wrong?

Thanks!

That’s a funny one. I use motion alot and I can set it to any value fine. Are you using the latest build 2.71? If not download it and try the scene with it. I miss jenga.

Yeah, it’s weird, isn’t it? I am running 2.71, 64-bit on Windows 7 with 8GB of RAM, Core-i5 processor, and internal graphics processor (no fancy GPU, unfortunately). I don’t know if any of that makes a difference.

I have nearly identical specs (but with a fancy gpu) post the blend and I’ll test it on this machine.

For me default of 0.5 always works fine. 0.5 is the equivalent of 180 degrees shutter angle I suppose.

Alright, packed the texture, should be good to go. It’s not a super fancy blend but thanks for testing it.

Thanks!

motion blur is broken for rigid bodies: https://developer.blender.org/T40017
it worked in 2.70a but not in 2.71 - so it is not a regression someone said :stuck_out_tongue: -

that may be your problem, you can bake to keyframes until it is fixed

I couldn’t download your file, google was mumbling about 24 hours or something, but the link liero refers to must be it. Either get 2.70 alpha, or bake to keyframes.

Yep! That was the issue.

Dang, that’s kind of sad. I’ll just download the standalone for 2.70a for use with rigid bodies until that gets fixed.

Thanks for the help!
