Making Volumetrics transparent with image texture

I am trying to make volumetric clouds for a planet, I have a cloud sphere with a thin solidify modifier applied to it and a volume scatter material. How can I make it transparent where the the clouds arent? http://www.pasteall.org/blend/31681

I kinda got it working by plugging the image into a multiply math node. multiplied it by 1000 and then plugged that into the density. But it only works using generated or object texture coordinate inputs.

I don’t think that you need the transparent, just the right quantity of density. Also the image texture is 2D while the generated textures are 3D, or volumetric by nature.

it actually looks nice, but is there any way to fix the mapping in the middle?

I ended up duplicating the cloud sphere 3 times and scaling each one a little larger, It makes a nicer result and renders faster to
