The Age of TankBot

It’s taken me much longer than I had hoped, but my first game is finally finished! I like to call TankBot a strategic, top-down, tank shooter. One hit from a rocket kills and your rockets ricochet off walls once. The idea came from a mini-game on Wii-play (anybody recognize it?) that I used to love playing. It’s been a very fun and educational journey making this game, but I’m excited to finally be finished and get some feedback.

The final version has six levels and three unique enemies. It’s a pretty simple game but I’m proud of it and hope you enjoy it! Any feedback, tips, advice, or criticisms are all very much appreciated.

Mac/Linux Downloads: Sorry, but I don’t have a runtime for you. But the .blend, all the game assets, and code are all available to download on my Git repo above! You get the unique experience of creating the TankBot runtime yourself! Or play it from blender…

Very Cool. I played it through. Very challanging but still motivating. I like how the tank leaves a dirt trail. Hope you can make more levels for me to play

Hey BRS! I’m glad you still like it! TankBot is the first game I’ve made and I had a great time making it. As my first baby step into the world of game development, it’s left me wanting to do and try so many other things though, so I’m putting TankBot to rest for now. Hopefully I can come up with some time and ideas for more fun levels for it somewhere down the road!

This game reminds me of GameMaker’s tank game…almost exactly identical but yours is 3D not 2D. You should check it out

It’s a very nice first game though. I only created an fps game with 2 enemies, 2 guns, and no terrain as my first game :stuck_out_tongue:

keep it up, I like how the sound fits in with the game almost exactly…and the music ends when the video is over…something rare in most videos

Awesome! Thanks for making this open source.

I love the camera bounce when an enemy explodes, you should make that even tastier somehow(3d explosions?).

One problem I encountered is that it didn’t run too well on my slow Intel HD3000 laptop. Maybe you could drop the texture resolution, remove texture AA, and further embrace the aesthetic that the chiptune music hints at? Also, clicking on a menu item doesn’t give feedback before beginning to load the next scene, this kinda felt like a crash instead of a loading action.
