Broken Animations in BGE

I’ve been working on a simple platforming game and I’ve run into a problem with animating an enemy. Because the enemy is a robot, each limb is just a separate animated object and the animation works fine for the upper leg. The lower leg, however seems to rotate in a strange direction and is just generally messed up even though they both have the exact same settings.

list of this I have tried:

parent the lower leg to the upper leg instead of the hinge

turn on and off every setting on the action block

made sure it was doing the right animation

It’s bug in blender 2.71. In 2.72 that bug will be fixed.
