the attached blend file works ok - fluid moves down a pipe but when I increase the domain to cover the whole pipe the fluid no longer works. oddly the bake size decreases and nothing happens. would welcome any assistance both to get this working and to understand why increasing domain has this issue

If you increase the domain size you will also need to increase the domain resolution so the fluid is still fine enough to go through the size of the pipe.
You should also change the domain viewport display from Preview to Final so you can see the final fluid result
You should also apply any scale and rotation of all your objects (Ctrl+A)
