Importing an AutoCAD Civil 3D Surface

I’m currently using Blender 2.71. I’m trying to find a way to convert an AutoCAD Civil 3D surface to a height map. I noticed that some versions of Blender (Blender 2.49b) have an import option to import either a DWG or a DXF. When I tried to import a DWG into Blender 2.49b I get an error message: (DWG-Importer cant find external DWG-converter (DConvertCon.exe)). I see an import option for importing an AutoCAD FBX, but no options for a DWG or DXF in Blender 2.71. Has this question ever come up before? Does anyone know of a method of importing a Civil 3D surface into Blender?

Thanks for getting back to me. I’ll give these a try.

In Civil 3D, You can convert your surface to a georeferenced DEM, then you can use this add-on:

If you have a georeferenced background image too, you can drape your DEM on Blender with this tool.
