Contour shape change based on Control object.

Greetings oh great and wise Blender Guru’s.

Is it possible to have a primary mesh control the shape of a second mesh? For example… bringing in a second mesh … and applying it to the surface contours of a car body mesh (having the second mesh take on the contour shape of the first)?

I’m trying to bring in 3d art components and wrap them to a control object, without changing the proportions of the imported art component mesh (s).

Many thanks!

You can certainly use a bevel object on a curve, meaning that the curve can take the shape of an object (or another curve)
the documentation is here http://wiki.blender.org/index.php/Doc:2.6/Manual/Modeling/Curves Also useful is using a curve as a taper object.

Other thing to look into is the shrinkwrap modifier. http://wiki.blender.org/index.php/Doc:2.6/Manual/Modifiers/Deform/Shrinkwrap

You probably want the mesh deform modifier, but be warned this requires some CPU strength for dense meshes (like cars) there may be simpler workarounds like the shrinkwrap but it doesn’t do quite the same thing…
