William Oglesby - Junior Year Reel 2014

Hey guys, I’m wrapping up my Junior year here at CCAD, and pulled together a reel of stuff I’ve done. Almost everything was wholly handled in Blender, sometimes I would have to export out to Cinema or Maya for group projects, but when I had space on a personal project, I would go start to finish inside open source software. I’m perfectly comfortable working in either package, but Blender has always been my favorite package  There are some video errors and kinks to work out (the strange error in turntables smoothness, and the wire frame error at the end) But let me know if you see anything else, or think something could be presented differently. Thanks!

Good job, but what is the goal of your show reel? Are you looking for a job as a modeler? A rigger? Just for friends and family? My show reel just has bits and pieces of finished animations I did for different companies, but then I am not looking to be a member of a team, I sell a final product to the client. And because I sell the final product, they could care less what software I used because my deliverable is always a finished video.

So, what is your goal?

Wow, thank you for the super prompt reply. I’ve mostly applied towards modeling internships this summer. I’m looking to work for someone rather then freelance. A lot of the companies I’ve talked to have requested people who are more multi disciplinary as well though, of course the Big studios want specialists, but the mid sized commercial houses you find out here in the mid west want you to be pretty self sufficient and work in teams of two or three. Modeling is my primary role I suppose, but animation, some rigging, texturing and rendering are all things I am capable of as well.

Love the bear.

You could show some…storyboards, concept pencils. The mesh shots can be shorter. I’d like to see some face animations of the bear…talking, showing some expressions. Something that shows you can ‘act’ the character with a personality.

0:14 The cuts from bear to old woman are abrupt and don’t flow into each other. The bear was a good start…spend some more time with the bear… I felt you left him behind too soon.

The moose is so cool…why don’t we see him textured, showing some expressions?

The sci-fi stuff is good but I think your cartoon stuff is way better, They were the most interesting part to me…you have a nice cartoon style going. I’d put more of that upfront and save the sci-fi for the end.

Good stuff and the music was a good pick. Add some sounds for the bear tumble…nothing fancy but you’d be surprised by how much that will add to your presentation.

Don’t leave your turntable squid? cowboy character in a build pose. pose him like the bear.
