Realistic Rain?

Is it possible?

I know most sims on youtube are more like jam than water. Andrew Prices video with dynamic paint was pretty good but the rain looked ‘chunky’ to me. Is it possible in blender for realistic rain?

Particles are probably better suited for rain than a fluid simulation.

How about making the raindrops bounce off an object? I understand there used to be something called reacter particles but they are no longer in the current builds. I would like the splashes to be realistic but how about 2 particle systems? One for the rain, and another on the object flinging particles up as if they were splashes?

As far as I’m aware you cannot make a particle spawn another particle, so doing this “correctly” with particles rather than fluid might be out of the question until the particle system is overhauled. You could have the ground be an emmiter for the splashes instead, it won’t be as accurate, but with heavy rain you may not notice.
