Rendering artefacts

Hi, all!

As I want to learn animations with Blender, I start with the ancient and very basic tutorial, “Gus the gingerbread man”. So far I have created Gus as advised (no problems there ) but my first attempts at rendering produce weird artefacts on the head.

What might be the reason? Of course I have removed doubles and recomputed normals.

Thanks in advance,

Thierry

P.S : As I have the same problem on another model, I will be very grateful for the solution.

Check for dupicated objects or incorrect mirror modifier settings
You appear to have forgotten to supply your blend file

You’re right, Richard. The head was duplicated; I can’t imagine how I did it, though. It was a simple cube created in place, and then subdivided twice. Still, I did learn something: the “Remove doubles” tool seems to yield different results depending on the kind of selection (vertices, edges or faces).
Thanks for your help,
Thierry
