Desktop PC

Hi everyone
I’ve been working on a couple of projects and I can’t go much further because of computer power. I’m thinking of getting a new one and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for me on what specifications or even if you could suggest a desktop that would be great. My budget is £700 (about $1,100) but I could probably go up to £800 (about $1,300).
Oh and if you suggest one I need it to be available in the UK.

I found these two. What do you think of them?:

Thanks
Littlemonkey

I say build your own PC. It is better than getting assembled pc

Hi VRanario - thanks I’ve actually been thinking of that but I’ve got no idea where to start or how to go about it - also is it cheaper?

Could you suggest any sites/tutorials or books?

I think newegg got a real good tutorial series

Thanks F3R0

You didn’t what hardware you currently have, but if you can reuse some parts, an economical upgrade path can be to buy a motherboard bundle. Many retailers have them for sale, such as scan.co.uk in the UK:-

For £800 you could have a watercooled i7 4770K with 16 GB RAM and a power supply. That is assuming you have a suitable case, GPU and HDD.

I’m using an old macbook pro so I can’t do that.

I’ve used this website before: http://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/
I wouldn’t rate them 10/10, but they’re the best I’ve seen for what they do.

I think it’s a nice intermediary step between buying off the shelf PCs and building your own.

I bought my current PC from them for just under £500 (no monitor or OS needed as I already had them). I’ll probably go with them again for my next PC, as this one is starting to show its age.

Thanks Richard W
I’m looking at it now.
Would you suggest any specs for using blender & that would keep the price relativity low?

Amd processors are cheap. If you dont use GPU renderers then you can have very good machine (without monitor and OS) under 500€.

Please keep in mind that I know nothing about ideal specs for PCs. If it works: I’m happy, else: I cry.
I just tried configuring two similar PCs for price comparison purposes. I don’t know if everything is compatible.

btw what it is for ? are you going to build it for Blender or Gaming ? If you want to build it for blender , you can check this

http://www.systemagnostic.com/faqs/

or this

Considering Littlemonkey mentions not having enough grunt for doing projects, I assume it’s for Blender use.
Thank you for reminding me to link to this: http://www.blender.org/download/requirements/

One question:
AMD or Intel

Top Intel are definitely faster, especially in case of single thread task.

You could have a look at the Cycles CPU benchmark results
The top 2 results are AMD, but there are 2 CPUs in each machine. Intel are consistently high-scorers in this benchmark, but try to find 2 similar spec’ed CPUs and compare them.
