Chocofur: furniture models for Blender and Cycles

Hello everyone!

After almost a year of intense, “after hour” work I feel like the first stage of this project is completed. For a very long time I was planning to launch an on-line shop with 3d models created exclusively for Blender and here they are!

Chocofur is currently an on-line shop with over a hundred paid and free furniture models created for Blender and Cycles rendering engine. Models are divided into 7 categories basing on their material (wood, steel, concrete etc.) but you can also get them separately as well.

One of the main purposes I had working on this project was the will to popularize Blender as an excellent tool for creating professional interior, furniture and architectural visualizations. With Cycles on board, I’ve been using Blender in my commercial works for almost two years. However, I’ve noticed one thing slowing me down for the most time

and it was not the lack of any tools or special features Blender could have. The thing I really missed were professionally prepared 3d models and shaders I could just “drag and drop” to my scenes in order to save time and effort. I could deal with it by creating some assets myself, but still the problem remained. And that’s when I thought about creating some furniture packs for me and perhaps other people too.

Right now Chocofur works only as a furniture models store, but in near future I plan to develop the website and add few tutorials for all the people that would like to improve their architecture/design rendering skills. I also plan to release other models like vegetation, cars etc.

I would really like to know your thoughts, feel free to comment and if you can - spread the word within other Blender users  If you’d like to test the models, visit FREE section in the store. There you’ll find 14 different furnitures for your own, personal and commercial use.

Below I’m posting some of the sample renderings from the store. Cheers!

The models look really nice, but something to consider… so many arch viz scenes seems to use either ultra European modern or ultra minimalist type furniture. In general, very little of it looks very comfortable or gives a sense of warmth. It would be refreshing to occasionally see 3d furniture options that are more real world as to what people would actually want to sit on.

As you build your store, I would encourage you to maybe model a few nice couches, a couple styles of comfortable recliners, some nice outdoor furniture, curio cabnets, tv entertainment centers, ect… stuff that the masses are actually going to realistically envision in their home.

Very cool site and amazing models. I wish you the best of luck and might even buy a few models myself in the future

Really nice models and site - I wish you all the best.

Is it intentional that you can’t download the free models without buying one? If I add a free model to the basket I still have to go to Paypal but that errors because you can’t have a zero amount (unless I’m doing something wrong)

Thank you guys for your feedback!

swmo - you don’t need to proceed through regular checkout, although this is also possible. Each of the free models has a download link on its product page - just click and save.

Oh yes - sorry

No problem at all  By the way, I’m currently working on a new sets of free models so you can monitor wip thread I’ll update soon.

Thank you lechu !

I suggest you to set the Origin of each model to the base of it and not to the middle.
This makes it easier to place it on a face.

Maybe one day designconnected will make you a good offer to buy your Blendermodells to sell them on their plattform

Kind regards
Alain

I’ve boomarked your site. Good value for money, and good luck!

wow, it’s all awesome! congrats

Thanks guys, I really appreciate it

By the way, if anyone downloaded free models and would like to leave feedback or some thoughts on what could be improved, it would be cool to discuss this here. Thank you again.

Guys, one more thing - if you’d have any suggestions on what models should appear in the store, I’d really love to hear them! I’m currently preparing new sets of models that will be created pretty soon.

Whoa! Such a nice scene and shaders setups! Awesome =)
I think, that it would be pleasant to have a bronze, copper and different glass, including fake.
Sometimes fake glass/glossy, that speedups renders, are more precious, than original true shaders=)

BTW, can you place my CC0 models for free on your site?

really good models here! And also great scenes and lighting, congratulations! I hope you all the best with your project.

PS: I have an old model I did in blender of the metal table with the 8 chairs that can go under it

very nice work

You say this was made in blender?? I demand mesh screenshots… This seems too real to be true.

Being a creative person myself I find 99% of all furniture I see in the stores here in the US boring as dry toast.
The majority of the time the US furniture is bulky boring and space wasting and not visually pleasing and functional at the same time.

Of course when you are in areas like New York where people appreciate that sense of design sophistication also there you find
modern US furniture but thats really rare to find outside of those metropolitan areas.

Just finished rendering the product brochure for NEO CON for a local furniture maker Leland Internationals and they as Americans also follow a very distinctive sense for simplicity and comfort.

Just some counter thoughts.

Hi there, the images look pretty fantastic. The first two have some color and light issues but the others capture the shapes and material properties really well.

Always interesting to see how much you can disguise a polygon model with a good texture.
I assume that the gray suede chair is using a texture as well as that one looks pretty goot but I can spot some texture tiling issues.

Where did you also get your textures from?

Great job!

Did you make the cart, checkout etc your self or what did you use? Looks really good
