Prof. Monster's BGE Guide to Linked Libraries 1.1

Hi,

update to version 1.1:

  • added API enhancement (groupObject and groupMembers)
  • added snippets to parent pivat and group objects

BGE Guide to Linked Libraries v1.1.pdf (470 KB)
Prof. Monster created an introduction and
two tutorials on Blender libraries at Advanced Tutorials of GameBlender 4 Ever.

  • The introduction explains what a library is.
  • One tutorial shows how to use libraries for the BGE with several methods.
  • One tutorial shows how you can create your own library supporting this methods.

Additional you can find the PDF version of Monster’s BGE Guide to Linked Libraries in this post.

Linked Libraries are nothing new, but I think they are not used very often as they are much underestimated. The described technique is quite powerful. If you want to create a game this might be the solution for you to create assets for new levels.

I hope this tutorials help beginners to use libraries and advanced users to make their assets a library by supporting the described methods.

Thanks
Monster

Thanks Monster, really interesting topic! I just wanted to state that it is not 100% up to date any longer, for example now it is possible to access the other group objects and the instance object via python in game!

Here is version 1.1 including the access to group instances.

It looks a bit different as PowerPoint 2007 on Windows 7 stopped including many graphics on PDF export. So I printed it to PDF. Ther result is the white border.
