Agreed. Thanks. I tend to overdo that from time to time without noticing.
Cheers guys for all your other comments and likes. I`m really glad that I inspired you more or less. Thanks again for...
"Keep it Simple but not Simpler." - Steve Jobs
Well done, my firend. I can`t understand all the symbols at first sight, but it looks quite interesting anyway. :)
Keep it up!
Art - All my Respect, you are Talented.
Congrats, wonderful execution.
Great renders with well made nature assets. :)
Hey, cheers guys!
Happy to know you like it. :) About the shaders.. I am not sure why, but I noticed that this is the kind of look of the shaders (or style) I end up with all my art pieces.
Hey there, I am happy to present you my latest artwork.
A 3d character design made with zbrush and rendered with blender cycles. It took me around 1 month from start to finish and it was a fabulous...
Fantastic, I think it`s the best render of a lizard I`ve seen. Really nice job. Aside from the very nice lighting and texturing/shading, you have a great fluid pose with that curved tail which makes...
Truly outstanding. It really is the best egg made with blender, I think as well. Great job. The textures, shaders, lighting and also the cold and warm colors contrast worked great in your piece.
Whoohoo.. is this even possible? haha
Thank you very much! I`m really surprised.
Thank you all guys! :)
Thank you all, I`m glad you see you all appreciate it. :)
That`s a really nice character. :)
Great job. I wonder how did you manage to make the road cracks to deep and realistic? (sorry if you mentioned that before) Is that volumetrics?
Starting a sketchbook, finally. I`m a big fan of League of Legends game from riot so I`m going to test my sculpting skills to sculpt some champions from there. :D
I have a list of champions...
Hey, thank you all, very much appreciated. :)
I`ll also add the 3rd render, if you are asking for it. Btw, if you have any questions about the project, and is you can`t find the answer in the WIP...
Thank you all for the kind words. :)
This is turning out pretty good, Derek. :)
The fur seems a bit too glossy for me though. And like you said, too patchy. What kind of children particles are you using? I suggest interpolat rather...
Hey folks, I just wanted to share with you my character: Dorgok - The Human Deer
I have to meantion that I used Zbrush for sculpting and I started a few weeks earlier, and taking...
I`m happy to tell you that is finally finished. Ones again, thank you for all the support and critiques along the process. :)
Finished projects thread:...

Hey folks, I`m happy to present you my dear deer friend, Dorgok.
This is maybe the longest project of mine. It took me aprox. 2...
Ohhhh yes. I now realize that is floating again :o. I fixed it ones before posing it, just after you said it first time. But I forgot to adjust it secondly. :(
I won`t re-render it though just for...
Well folks, I think we are close to the end here.
I want to thank you all for all the critiques and encouragement along the process of all this. You really helped my take the best decisions. So,...
Thank you Shakedown! I think it should be alright. I`m only doing minor adjustments, but I still need a rig for that.
Here is one try: (tried to make him look more fluid and curved in a S shape....
I finished building and applying the rig. Trying to figure out the best pose now.
Heh... alright. I`ll change the pose.
So what I understand from you guys is that he should look more relaxed? (lowering the shoulder and moving the back) Maybe I`ll change the eye expression too....
Thank you all, I finished adding the last touches. (adjusted the fur the way doris said) I really liked the dust particles/ leafs around him to creat depth. So I`ll play with that a bit. and I`ll...
Alright. Render is done. I tried some variations in gimp and here is what I came up with:
1st one: raw render
2nd render: composited in blender
3rd one: final with gimp adjustments
Good progress my friend. I`ve been watching the thread for a while. No much critique to give you though. (for now) - excepting maybe the arm anatomy but I don`t think you`ll go back and re-sculpt...
Thank you, doris. The method is one I saw on a blendercookie tutorial a few years ago. I`m now using for most of my backdrops since is also good for dof (creates a somewhat more realistic dof...
@ Matt: Thanks for the input, I know what you mean about the pose... That`s what I`m trying to achieve. Good point to look at pose reference - I`ll do that, and try to optimize my pose. Thank you. :)...
Hello, thanks for the opinion. I usually go for darker scenes but I found out that people rarely look at dark or night time images. So light is better. Also, is more appealing to see the light coming...
Hey, thank you! Really glad is pleasing for you now. :)
Thanks for the heads up but that`s actually the reason why I added the moss. The vest is not getting washed cause he has been stuck in...
Yes, I looked, Thank you Jay. I shared a lot of reference photos some pages back. I think it`s pretty similar to those. :-S
I won`t change it though, thanks for the feedback.
I now see Derek`s...
Thank you very much to everyone for the great feedback! :)
So what I gathered from all of it is:
-reduce the saturation (working on it)
-add a blend from base to tip (it has been added already)...
Those are some pretty good sculpting skills. :)
- finished the moss.
Any suggestions? You think I should change the placement or shader?
(the moss on the clothing is not looking too good - needs more particles, I`ll change...
Thank you doris! :)
Working on the moss now. First rough render after ~20 min work:
Thank you very much! Greatly appreciated. :)
I did some chances on the wooden shoulder pad:
Before moving on to the moss, I`ll play a bit with saturation and values of each item....
Cheers Leopold! :)
I start working on the moss soon. Now I`m overlaying some textures on top of the clothing and wooden shoulder pad to add some extra small details.
With all that done, I`ll...
Alright, finally managed to pull off a render.
What do you think? (I`ll add thickness to the clothing later on)
Hey, new update for today. Pretty much finished the hair particle systems. Here is a viewport shot:
(I`ll show you a render soon, but first I need to fix the values and intensity of the fur shader)...
Hmm, indeed. Cheers man, I fixed it now.
Here is the update:
It`s really hard to form an idea about this without the other particles. But here you go:
Thanks you doris for the feedback. :)
I modified the value and saturation of the fur, also added the glossy on the nose and SSS on the ears and the fun on the hands. Rendering now . . .
Hey, I added the fur onto the head now. It seems a bit weird to me though.
This is just the base on which I`ll add other particles like beard, chest hair, etc.. :D
*also, the SSS for the ears...
Lol, cheers man! :)
-finished the basic hair shader which I`ll now apply to the head mesh for further tweaking.
What do you think? Any other critiques on the character, not only the fur ball?
Thank you for the comment. Good point. As far as I know, fur has some glossiness to it. But I haven`t thought of adding fresnel as a factor. I should do some tests.
I never used the hair BSDF....
Hey Bossestrenders, I think it`s everything alright if someone says his opinion and gives honest critiques, as long as he arguments. :) Even the harsh ones are cool.
This is one reason why I`m...
Yea.. the thing is that is also make everything look noisy cause there are not spaces with only one colors (as is the sky).
Wow, I`m happy to see some much feedback. Thank you!
I`ll surely figure out a way to make a realistic, now fur, to please everyone. :)
As for now, I`m working on the lighting and fixing the...
Thank you all. Indeed. (as I said a while back, the light I shown at the moment is just a default one for shader previews, so of course I`ll change it)So on the to do list is:
Great final result, my friend. Good colors and overall Monday morning atmosphere. (especially with the right music playing in the background hehe) :)
Added a quick background with dof. From now is just about adding more details, tweaking and adding the fur + final composite.
What do you think? Any suggestions or critiques?
-the basic shaders are done.
-now I`ll start messing with the concept and trying to got it just how I want to. Also I`ll have to add the fur. :3
No worries, Shakedown. :)
Who doesn`t? XP
Nice artwork. What made me stop by at this image is the colors. Great combinations or orange, blue and green. Nice composition too, with the plants in the foreground.
Wow, that`s some awesome sculpting skills. Great proportions and anatomy. Great work!
Welcome to the forum btw. :)
Hah, that is awesome really!
Great, character, story telling, shaders, colors & mood and expression.
I think it`s a solid place in the competition. Let`s see the other entries. ;)
That looks quite awesome man. :)
Great progress. Do you have the spec on the bust orange or the light is orange? Because we, humans have white specular on the skin as far as I know.
I like how the...
Thanks a lot, folks. :)
This is the basic shader that I`m using for almost all of these items. I`m adding more notes on most of them. That`s just the base on which I build things on.
Haha Tommy, I`m quite your song is quite similar to the one I have in mind- which is "Far over the Misty Mountains cold" - from the Hobbit.
Good point both of you. (bosstrendes and Konradtacular)
I let a space in between his shoulder and the string because I`m not sure how much volume the fur will use so I`ll have to change the...
That looks pretty awesome dude! :)
It took a while but here it the update:
- added the displacement texture as bump to every item
- messed up with lighting (not the final one yet, just a default for previewing shaders)
Eyyyyye, I love when people like my eye.
I couldn`t manage to add the displacement bump map to every item yet, but I did the eye first.
Here is the render:
I think it turned out quite decent though is a bit...
Thank you doris for the kind words. :)
I call those black and white textures 'displacement' texture because that`s how it`s called when you bake them in zbrush but I actually use them as bump maps...
@Shakedown: I hope I inspired you in a way with your pirate. Good luck. ;)
@kuro: Hansen explained it well enough. :D
@ctdambomb: Cheers man! Let`s hope the final render will be good comparing...
Hey Nathan, thanks. Actually, I was just thinking about that yesterday. Not sure. Maybe I`ll do that, just for fun cause the topology is quite good and not too high poly. :)
As for the update, I`m...
Haha, not a bad idea. XD
As for the update - here is the textured hand: (nothing too complex because it won`t be a important part of the render)
Apparently I forgot a bit about the hands but luckily I managed finish them quite fast.
So I now start exporting everything.
Here is the clay version of the hands:
Indeed, nice reflections there. :)
And separating the meshes was a smart thing to do.
Keep it up.
Thank you Kris.
Here is the spear, sculpted and textured. Now, just as planed, today I`ll export everything in blender and bake all the textures needed.
Thank you Hansen. I haven`t used any add-on.
Here is a close-up screen shot that will help explain it using less words. :)
That`s a one great car. It`s nice to see a more distinct render style regarding cars. (comparing to the classic brand new polished car paint shader with some studio lighting reflections)
Hey dude, thanks for the feedback. I think someone said that before.
I know it doesn`t seem natural but it actually is. (besides the fact that I`ll also add fur on top) The antlers should be thicker...
That looks quite cool. :)
Great progress so far Jonathan. I think that if you`d add the hair soon it`ll look more like him cause right now is quite hard to figure out the likeness without it. After...
Thank you Doris and Hansen.
I`m glad you asked, Hansen, I`m now modeling some details life feathers, accessories, etc.. I switched to blender today to unwrap the uvs of the spar wood part and...
I finally found some time to check the dota characters making of. Really valuable information.
Here are the improvements and the things changed from the things I learned from that.
Thank you Hansen. :)
Awesome WIP. All you need is some adjustments and details on the character, a great pose, a nice background and lighting and the competition is yours. ;)
Here is what I found today and...
Hey guys, here is the update:
I started to work on the spear now and also posed him.
The latest sculpts are great. Very nice emotion.
I`m glad to see your figure sculpting style again. :)
The post above is still valid. :D
In the mean time, here is a quick (but important) update:
I tried some difference types. I`m unsure though. I feel like I want to...
Hah, you did a great job making something that simple look really nice. That`s mainly because of the colors, lighting and composition. Good job!
Nice character indeed. And very helpful videos, I enjoyed them all. :)
Worth time invested in a great result.
I tested some things and panted some ideas on to the ss from zbrush.
(I added a bit too much green but ignore the excess. xD)
Also, a collage with the ref images. I circled and added numbers to...
That`s a lot of writing, thanks for taking the time.
Ok, first of all here is the story (is not exactly complete - I still need to add some character personality details but still this...
Progress of today:
Finished up the armor pretty much. All I need the texture more is the emblem from the belt. :( Should I make that gold? Or wood?
I feel like lower part of the armor...
Thank you. I also thought about the green shirt idea, but I can`t find a good realistic material that is green and natural. (excepting a leaf type of material.
Cool stuff Jonathan. :)
I`ll check follow this thread`s progress. The topology is not so important when doing stills, so don`t worry too much. Though if your proportions are off even slightly, the...
Thank you for the feedback. :)
As for the update of the day, I painted some more items. (around 3 more left)
I tried Derek`s suggestion.(blue shirt) I think he looks pretty good, but I feel like...
@Talebreader: Cheers man, I just fixed that up. :)
@Derek: Thanks for your effort of explaining all this. Really nice examples btw. :)
About making the shirt desaturated dark blue,...
Thank you, doris. :) I`m glad you like it.
I`m not sure why the green fights with yellow and red (brown in combination)
If you look in the picture, green and orange are complementary colors. (I...
It`s cool, doris. Thanks for explaining. I still don`t get if you are saying that is good or bad that I have greens and blues in the character. lol (cause you are using the verb 'fight' which makes...
Thanks for the critiques! :)
@doris & Hansen: You are right, I`ll make it without green in the texture and I`ll only add the green color through moss.
I don`t get this. The blue fights the...
You use a lot of reference which will make your modeling great. If you are good with rendering too, this will be really amazing. :)
Haha, very good point.
I did some texturing today. It is way faster than sculpting so I expect finishing everything up with zbrush this week and move on to blender next week.
Any suggestion about the texturing?
