Reminds me of the Iconograph from the Discworld, very well done.
Thanks for the support, glad to have you tagging along.
Here is a longer cut Harley. Camera is a bit overly jerky because of the section I pulled from.
The running water is nothing more...
Still plagued by color inconsistency but pushing on none the less.
Ran 24 frame on the front and back end to see the rain working.
Looks good at the start I think but not near dense enough once you...
There sure will be.
So am I. ;) Happy New Year BTW
Added some z debt back in and started turning the spec levels up on the ground materials. (Walls/bridge will come next)
Also reduced the coverage area of the...
Thank you stopping by to look and taking time to comment.
At the moment the only post/compositor work is a bit of color correction.
None of my cameras have DoF yet but when they do I will remember...
The model is very accurate. Is it modeled from reference images?
Its designation is AR-t and is in its second incarnation. ;)
Thank you for taking the time to browse and for the kind words.
It is good to be back Harley, glad you are still watching.
I have not spent much time on the rain yet. Mainly just looking at a material that shows up in the renders and trying to judge how much...
So then is it not worth buying at all or is it just a matter of knowing what you are in for up front?
Love it. Knew you could do a car if you set to it. :)
Started playing with some rain while I get acclimated to my new digs.
Obviously not a production camera angle, just trying like hell to motivate myself...
Kick ass work my friend.
Very nice work. Is the modeling yours as well?
The slide release should be tilted up when breech is locked open.
Playing with Kent's marble shader.

3x 750 ti 5:32.82
Well folks the move is behind me without incident.
I wish I was spending the week working but instead I have to unpack so I can repack.
Family won't be visiting itself for the holiday after all.
Very much digging on the cleaner look.
However, something is bothering me about the medicine balls as well as the bosu ball.
The materials are just to flat, they need some life.
Another sample at 1200 samples.
Alright, feeling a bit silly for overcomplicating thing.
Select the light plane and move it out from inside the light fixture.
Turn it up to 10 and you should be nice and clean at 1200 samples.
Just the shader on the ship itself.
Once I added the floor material back in I noticed an increase in the noise level again so it may be partially related to the reflection of the the material. I'll...
I changed the fresnel settings on the paint material and a couple other small tweaks.
I put in a layer weight node and used the facing output as the factor for the first mix node and the fresnel...
I am rendering pink on my end with 2.72, materials not packed?
Anyway, this is 2k samples at 1080p.
Close to what you are getting at 4k and you can scale to 720p to further reduce the...
You mentioned CGC, are too talking about Kents car paint shader?
I use the cloud texture often for noise.
Don't forget to adjust the brightness and contrast of the clouds to get sharper or softer division of color.
Jump over to Blender Internal then and make your noise pattern from a cloud texture.
Check the number of preview vs render levels on your sub surf modifier.
It looks like the displacement map does not have enough geometry to work with in the preview so you are only seeing the finer...
Getting to old for that truck loading shit, I hired movers this go round.
This will likely be my last post for a while so here's a small update showing my progress on the puddles and...
Hi James, thanks for stopping by and catching up on my progress.
The noise modifier is something I am still trying to wrap my head around but I am glad to hear the effect is selling itself.
That is exactly what I was thinking of, well done Sir.
I guess it depends on what you are defining as a locker.
A gym style locker door, assuming it is built in, would be way out of place for sure.
However, if it was an ornate louvered wood door it...
Going to start grudging it up some now but here is the first pass of the Harley Hotel & Casino coin I'll be using in the final.
Agreed, maybe some vertex smoothing to relax the entire thing or jump into sculpt mode and hit the sharper ares with the smooth brush.
While out walking this morning it dawned on me: what about a bit of cross promotion for the casino.
I'll make the coin one of yours if it's ok with you.
Still supposed to be packing, only two weeks left, so i kept the drinking to a minimum.
I did sneak in a pair of Honey Brown's while I worked on this and waited on my roast to finish.
Only rendered at 100 samples so forgive the grain.
Thank you very much, glad to have you around.
Thank you for the well wishes.
Spent some time on the puddles and a few more of the materials, here what I've come up with.
Thanks all around Harley.
I am trying to make the fog seem like it has just started burning off and is still hanging heavy and low. Not quite there.
The puddles are very new and I have not invested...
Thanks, glad you'd have been on hand if i'd have still needed it.
Ha, thanks man. You really packed a lot into the series and I am trying like hell to milk it for all it's worth....
Love the change in color palette.
Looks very much like all the hotel/apartment gyms I have used over the years.
But nicer of course.
Nice demo Sterling.
I'll lend my GPU's to the cause if you need some assets run Harley.
The OP indicated that they aware of the process for plugging up a normal map and is asking if there is another way of going about it.
Follow from the top image input.
Converter>Math>set to multiply : Sorry for not being clearer.
Note that in this example I did not bother with a Normal Map node since I was working with a...
Another method, though not as reliable, is to use a math node after the normal map node and plug it into the displacement slot of the material output. The math node then becomes the bump amount. This...
Well don't I just feel a special kind of stupid. ;)
It was the shadow ray, thanks a lot man. :)
Yes, those are indeed the decals. I'll play with those settings and see what I can make happen . Thank you.
Glad you are liking the new lighting. The post pro does still need work and I'll try...
Thanks Harley, been slowly trying to add some life to it.
I have to be careful and go slow so I don't overload my vram.
I'll need new/bigger cards before I finish but I can't swing them right now...
Yes, just the "snowflaky looking thing."
I really love the roulette wheel on the wall.
Those detail patterns feel like they should be a bit closer to the wall for a more subtle effect???
As usual you are doing some fab work.
That has promise...
Maybe the "dancers" have to limbo out?
I tried to like the large stones but in the end just could not bring myself to keep them.
Still hate the lighting so I will probably be scrapping it all in a few minutes.
Good luck, let me know how the build turns out.
Not sure what changes they made but there is a 900 series version of CUDA 6.5 you guys may want to check out.
I did not mean to imply that you had cut the tile size at my behest. If you note the time stamps you'll see that you were posting about the change while I was rendering with it. Just an observation I...
Funny you should mention that, I just cut the Y in half and rendered it out to see what a more optimized tile would net me.

I render both stills and animation. (See my sig for a link to my current animation project and detail of render sizes and times)
I have the 750's because the 900's were not out when I decided to...
I was speaking to the top of the bottles appearing to intersect with the cabinet itself.
Your main card will be short however much memory is used by your desktop and UI.
At idle with nothing but my two monitors running I am showing 156MB usage on my primary.
If I launch Blender and the...
My bad, I totally read 290x in that list for some reason.
The only benefit I know of to running the ATI up front is it frees the CUDA cards of any memory responsibility as far as you desktop is concerned. I have considered that direction myself but have no...
The fluid surfaces seem flatter now, what did you change? Or is it just angle?
Is it just me or do you have some bottles clipping in those rounded cabinets?
I have 3x 750Ti and it breaks down basically like this for me:
1x 4 min 00 sec
2x 2 min 00 sec
3x 1 min 20 sec
Look closer at the 780s before you drop your cash on the 900's.
The 780 has a...
Not using any at all for the time being.
Right now I am jumping back and forth between the cameras I used to block in the project.
Once I have a camera path dialed in I'll begin working on camera...
looking forward to it
Going with a mist pass or will you be venturing into volumetrics?
Very much looking forward to working through these.
Thank you very much for all your effort.
I was indeed talking about the vodka, it looks more convex than concave.
if you want you can send me just the glass and I'll look at it for you.
Also keep in mind that acrylic gets its frosted edges from a combination of saw marks and polishing.
Two separate materials can be used to great effect to make this happen in cycles.
Martini material looks terrific.
I have a question about the mesh: is it a clone of the inside of the glass that you filled in the top of?
It just seems to round up into the center rather than bow...
Oh and you have a great start here, keep it up.
click edit post then click go advanced.
scroll down to manage images.
Thanks. :spin: I'll get it all eventually.
Here you go.
The more I tinker with it the more I like it but I am flying blind so I have no idea if I am approaching it correctly.
I added my third card back in and my times at 720p are running 1 min 23/27 sec...
Added in some chump ass headlamps so I could get a better idea of what the fog was doing.
Timing on the cars is way off but I just needed to see the fog working for now.
The 780Ti has more cores and a faster memory interface than the 980.
Did you scale the fluid object up to sit within the walls of the glass?
That will help tremendously with the refraction coming off correctly.
Glad you got it running.
The volumes are not baked at all. They are rendered along with everything else.
Very classy indeed!
Silly question maybe but did you install CUDA 6.5?
Coming along nicely Harley.
I really love the studio renders of the props, very clean and great color.
Is it the reflected wood that is turning it coppery looking or is the lighting that different?...
Should be a strait forward update then.
Download the latest driver and CUDA 6.5 to Downloads
Open a virtual console (Ctrl+Alt+F2) and log in
Make downloads your active directory:
Which desktop are you running and do you already have the proprietary drivers installed?
Thanks Harley, here is another of the volume fog doing its thing.
To answer your question about the volumes, there are two cubes using...
Playing with the volumetric shader as a means of closing off the open ends under the bridges.
So far so good and my render times are coming in around 2 min 38 sec which I find acceptable for now....
It ain't all that man. One of these days I'll get it smokin' fast again.
I animated the film grain a bit as Harley recommended then adjusted the mist levels just a touch.
Thanks Harley, glad you are digging the alternate angles.
I am trying to keep myself from build just to what the animated camera will see.
2x GTX 750Ti 2GB
(I have a...
Generally speaking Ghost it is a monitor profile issue. You can specify which one Windows and your monitor/applications will use but sometimes they can reset to default and you start all over again....
Some cards come that way and I have my factory times posted as well.
I think it gives people an idea of what they can expect from their hardware should they decide to tinker.
But this is your gig...
Well my computers are being stupid again and the color is wrong on each machine so there is no telling how this will view for any of you. It looks fine in Blender and in GIMP but in windows viewer or...
Updated my Nvidia driver and OCed my cards again.
2x GTX 750 Ti 2GB (1395MHz)
Still not getting any environment lighting in Linux.
Any thought from anyone?
Thanks Harley. The noise was the first thing I noticed this morning when I ran it.
A total oversight on my part, I should have just turned the post off since all I wanted to see what how the Cycles...
Got the materials converted over to Cycles last night and dropped in some lighting.
Was really liking how it was looking so I let the first 200 frames...
So am I and thanks. :)
And disk one is completed!
Next comes the the conversion to Cycles and the finer detailing of the environment.
No big, glad it was not a machine issue on my end, the sky must be however because I am rendering again under Windows and the clouds are colored. Maybe my Nvidia driver for Mint? I'll update it and...
