Hey Monk, congrats on getting picked up over at BN.
Looking real nice MB. The new lights are really bringing the place to life.
I am wondering though if there should be a bit of trim around the hall opening.
Nothing fancy, maybe just some riveted...
Awesome! Best of luck.
Haha! Terrific outcome.
Oh wow, really nice job on the area rug.
Truly inspiring work. 5 Stars all the way.
Nice looking setup Trevis, what is your render time looking like?
You could always just try a glass based shader so that the IOR distorts enough of anything below the water line as to make it less noticeable. Combined that with the idea Minoribus proposed about the...
I guess that is what it is called. lol
I used the following nodes here.
The subtle roll you have now looks much more believable.
Like the water is being disturbed internally at periodic intervals but not from the steady agitation of the wind.
I'd start by trying a z-fog in the birds eye render. Make the fog a brown color and have it obscure the bottom of the lake.
Grass indeed looks much better. I love the surface ripples and reflections on the water but think it is entirely to clear. Lakes, unless spring fed and stone lined, are very murky past more than a...
Question: Wouldn't the water be a bit smoother since it is inside?
Just messing with you. The image I just posted has it in there. The displacement on the grass plane is a noise texture.
Sure you have. ;)
I'd be lost without weight painting when making grass, all the SH buildings use it to some degree or another.
Just a though but you should try weight painting the grass in for both density and length.
Also let the particles clump a bit. Much more natural that way. I know you are going for the manicured look...
Minoribus, until I started this building I had been working from screen grabs of the HD print of the film.
I recently found a "making of" video on YouTube that I guess was on the DVD and took a...
Man that silk sim is beautiful and the deformation around the rim of the cup really sells it.
Excellent work.
I am not sure what they are made of Harley. I was thinking they were offset brick until I was able to nab this close up from a making of special I found on YouTube. Not so sure now, I'll take any...
I like the new light rig a lot, it is really starting to drive home that "hanger" feel.
Worth a shot.
Very nice composition. Good luck. :)
I really need to kick this cold so I can focus.
UV mapping and displacements for the outer walls completed.
Some high contrast color adjustments to illustrate the separation in the stone...
Thanks Sterling, that would be a cool idea. I know the lighting is boring, I still suck at it but I'll keep practicing.
I did use IOR Brent and thanks. I know it is more of a tempered glass than...
I don't know how I am going to display it yet Ghost.
Nice object choice Vicky.
Nice material choice Harley.
I really like your lighting, very much setting the right mood, well done.
I really like what you have here. The only thing I may have done different would have been to add SSS to the snow flakes.
Good luck in the comp.
Looking good U. I really like the base color for the truck. You thinking black windows?
That depends on how you view the working relationship between Burton and Depp. I liked the movie, mainly for the set design, as you can tell by this thread. However, many feel it was not that great...
I finally started again ... lol
Oh sweet!
Thanks Vicky. No peanut gallery comments about it being an AK? :p
Well done Sir. I almost don't want to see it painted up, almost. ;)
I was thinking the same thong Monk but maybe if it were on cables so it is lifted out of and lowered into place???
And she should be blowing a bubble.
Excellent use of Suzanne!
@Minoribus, I may go back and work on this some more at some point but it will mainly be to add some some vertex painting procedural textures to make it look worn in.
@Robert, yes, considerably...
Just keeps getting better and better.
The new lighting is shaping you great.
Just playing around with Linero's script for copying particles to rigid body objects.
WOO HOO, free tryptophan coma!
Well folks it has been quite the process getting these two models completed but as of now this thread is on hold.
Taking a break from these for a bit to focus back on some other projects but I...
Romanian AK-47 outfitted with Tapco parts presented in acrylic and platinum.
2.69/Cycles 600 samples
I'd love to be able to offer some assistance but you are far beyond my skill level.
I'm afraid all I can do at this point is fawn over how cool it is turning out.
Minoribus and Harley, thanks for the suggestions but try as I might I can't seem to bring myself to make these things look real.
So on that note...
Either way you are doing great work and I can't wait to see how it turns out.
Those trees turned out great.
You planning on sticking with Freestyle or is this just a "lets see what happens" render?
Oh yeah, now it has some life. Great progress, keep it up.
Yafa seems to be a bit off under 2.69.
Oh well, here is the first of what will be many color treatments.
I am sort of digging the Bakelite material, needs a bit more work but is almost passable....
Dude, if Ghost and the Inspector are drinking together you are in serious trouble.
This is looking very nice already, lots of character.
I like 5.56, I load my own when I have time and resources. Very fast very flat round.
Ok back to the (industrial) art... lol
Now comes the part I hate most, turning up the samples and...
What have you used if I may ask. I know the AR variants as well as the FNH rifles, HK as well I believe all have operator side thumb switch safeties. Not sure why Kalashnikov went with the action...
I am building it, for the most part, from an actual rifle that was loaned to me for reference purposes.
What you are seeing on the operator side on the rifle is actually a quick detach point for a...
Just the bolt to finish up now.
Initially material and lighting will be in Yafa Ray again and follow AR-t but I'll be going with a black granite and silver motif.
Good amount of progress today.
Just the bolt and receiver cover left to nail down.
Oh and a reflex sight for the front rail.
I'll be honest, I was a bit disappointed to see the old hat go.
However, now that I have a view of the top of the new hat I am sold on it.
The belt and buckle are a perfect match for the taper....
Absolutely stunning work.
Moving right along.
What looks new? Are you talking about the AR-15 display case? The camo stuff?
Still a bit out of sorts but I did manage to get the stock modeled this morning.
Thanks K, some of the finer points are a real challenge.
What textures are you referring to as boring?
Is that BI you are using?
Excellent job. Very good idea as far as spotlighting your plates goes.
The elevator music was spot on, I know because I was tempted to puncture my speakers. ;)
Been a bit under the weather and my wife is all out sick so progress has been slow.
I did manage to get the operator side of the receiver taken care of this morning.
I'll try and get down on the...
Composition looks good.
Try turning the size up on the lights furthest from the desk a bit so that the long shadows turn out softer.
I don't have a GPU to render from either so I know your pain.
Try rendering your clays of the juke box in Cycles, big difference and easy to jump back and forth between BI and Cycles when not using...
I saw this series not long ago, some really fantastic photos.
Good luck with the project, I will be watching with great interest.
Do you plan on using BI through to completion?
Only the E,A and D strings are wound, yes there is a wound texture on them.
The G string measures .001 of an inch thick, the B and e are thinner yes but not drastically so.
As for them all looking...
I sure do.
Adjust the light accordingly but I use a hex color of: B2AC95
Sweet! Very good looking model so far.
Yeah, now you are getting somewhere, really taking shape now.
Dirty Birds looking ok so far...
Saints/Falcons time is almost upon us so I'll leave off here for now.
I like the white one. It looks like it is going fast just sitting there.
Oh yeah
and with the hand guard and rails completed I am on to the receiver.
Very nice. Good color for the mustard.
Yours, looks metallic. I would try adding a displacement map to the inside of the modeled lamp that resembles the pattern in the reference image.
My neighbor loaned me his to take measurements from.
Very nice Andrew, I particularly like the bioluminescent mushrooms.
Thanks Icon, I plan on doing an inverted color scheme based on Betty if the model comes out near as good.
So black marble with white veins and silver hardware.
Feel free to look over my shoulder (newest post) for some reference if it will help.
My neighbor loaned me his so I have it sitting in my lap for reference.
Not going back to black on black but rather find a different grunge map to use.
This one looks like someone used cheap rattle can paint and it is flaking off.
Check this out, see how it is faded...
I am not sure what level of realism you are shooting for with this but generally speaking the steel/aluminum parts of firearms are not painted and so would not peal up or flake off. In the case of...
Better but still not happy.
At least now I have enough completed to start the hand guards in the morning.
That sound like it is worth the trip by itself. :)
Been years since I have been up to the mountains anyway and my wife has never been.
Coming together nicely, excellent attention to detail.
I know the shape is wrong on the front of the piston block but I'm tired of fighting it right now.
I'll come back to it at some point.
Interesting color/shader on the mug. I'd buy one as well. Butt ugly or not. lol
Sweet, that looks much better. :)
That is by no means the definitive way, just where I would be starting.
Man this is getting insanely cool.
For solids, non clear liquids, I would not bother with a separate mesh inside.
Simply select the interior faces you want red and apply the material then Ctrl+I and apply the glass to the inverted...
Ahh, meat pie. :)
For the bottle, is it just one exterior mesh or is there an inside wall as well?
