Whoa....that looks sweet...
Just another of those five stars/Suzannes/Zorros renders.
Nothing to see here people. Move along, move along now...

Wow. Nice one.
You've always done an amazing job with texturing, and this image is no exception. You seem to like to draw humanesque creatures with semi-reptilian skin, hm? :)
The "decals" (for lack of better word) that overlay the image give it a nice touch, as does the sky, which almost looks frosted.
Fantastic job.
Ah, you changed it slightly since I saw it earlier today. Though, that could be the resizing of the image that makes certain things stand out more.
As I told you earlier, very nice work.
Though, I still think the bump near the spikes is a bit sharp and could be softened a bit. But that may be amy personal taste too.
Keep up the great work Andreas.

Bloody hell, that's amazing! How long did it take to render? Did you use blender internal or a separate renderer?
Er, yeah, nothing special  That is really really cool.
Indeed nothing to see than another great image. :D
Wow. I never understood how people are able to paint such detailed textures.
excellent work,
Please post your workflow, or some wip pictures...
I use Zbrush for my bumpping pleasure, I hear ruhmour that you use GIMP and painter... any information would healp fellow artists out greatly :)
TIA,
i am not used to seeing such detailed pictures in Blender forums :) I had to make a second look to make sure i was not in the Zbrush forums :p
Thanks for shareing with us andy :)
Another stunning and incredible masterpiece from @ndy.
You really bring us inspiration and a goal to reach at with blender. Maybe one day some of us will reach such a place in blender skill but you'll probably be another step ahead ;)
Awesome stuff
Slep
very nice render you got here.
for some strange reason, I have the impression the eyes doesn't fit much with the character itself. I think it's the color of the eye..but again, I can't think of any color that would work better..so this is maybe just a personnal taste on eyes colors :P
after looking at it for a couple of minutes...I must say that if Pascal Blanché had posted that over cgtalk..I wouldn't have asked any question to myself..that's just THE QUALITY I'd expect from a character expert like him...all of this to say, this is probably my favorite piece from you :D

[sarcasm] @ndy, @ndy, @ndy. Man when will you learn to try just a little harder on this stuff, it's almost as bad as the whole reflective sphere stuff that pops up on this forum every now and then.[sarcasm/]
Wow dude, truly amazing artwork yet agian. How long did it take you to create that? What kind of SSSS did you use? Would you mind posting a link to the original 3000x3500? You should try selling some of your artwork. I forgot, are you a professional cg artist like myself?

Great Work ....
Wow. Yet another superb piece. I simply love the expression and body language of the character. The background is also very very good. Everything in the image comes together. Excellent job. Five stars from me.

hey really cool stuff!
i hope one day you sit down and write a story/script for your characters, this guy, snog, and the moonman guy would make fit great in a fantasy animated short..........orange two......................just a thought,
only crit would be the nostral going into the mouth spliting the lip looks off? i would make the nostrals long, but have them stop at the top of the lip, with no seperation.........just my thought
Sweet character, sweet modeling, sweet textures, just.... sweet. Sweet design too.

first off, i really admire your work. i guess your blender's pascal blanche or whatnot.
couple things, if you dont mind.
you mentioned you paint all the textures yourself, do you use a tablet? photographic material? a combination of image maps and procedurals? your texturing is always outstanding.
second, im curious about the lighting set up here. is it a closely guarded secret or could you share some tips about getting that effect? how much of it is post pro? i can see several rim lights here and there but the total setup is sick. it totally reminds me of some of blanche's work.
if you could share some tips thatd be amazing. thanks for your amazing work and contribution to the community.

I love it :)
What a great expression you've captured.
Another amazing image for the Forum Gallery!

Geez, this has got to be your worst render ever!!! Try and do better next time. ;)
Seriously, its absolutely amazing.
5 stars.

Why this wrong modesty ?
I like ur character style ... he is so expressive .
but, have u problemes to model or texture correct nipples ? (<-- i hope it is the right english word) ...exactly like the "rainmaker" :p
sorry for the following german words , but i have no idea to translate it in correct/understandable english:

hey andy, thats a great piece of art,
and as robertt said you have captured the expression nicely
I like that twinkle in the eye
cheers
Awesome work, did you model the wrinkles on his face?
is he a goody or a bady?
hey andy, realy great "thing", one of your best works!
nice model and the texturer is fantastic.

@ndy...would you stop doing that;) ... every picture you post here I have to go fetch my lower jaw somewhere under my desk  .
And you're not getting any stars from me, you've got enough as it is, ye harpagon :D.
Thatīs an amazing piece of work!
Simply wonderful like all of your pictures!
Could you post a making of or show some tricks?

What more could I say. Nicely pulled off :)
I has this really neat effect of having been printed on a particular type of thin, absorbant paper.

awesome work, could you post the high res image for download? I'd like to put it as my wallpaper :P

I second Wu's request - be great to hear the story behind some of your pics! Certainly full of imagination and inspiring.
Amazing work @ndy!
Could you share with us some of the steps that created such a beautiful work (some wires, noodle configuration...)?
5 Stars.

And then @ndy steps in and replies :) (Please?)
@ndy, I guess I'm going to agree with everyone who spoke before me and say that this work is phenominal.
I feel it's even more important to say that it's much better then your previous work that I've seen. Blows the dinosaur one out of the water, and that one was pretty amazing. This picture has real composition to it and the background actually adds to the picture rather then just using up space.
Amazing.

All of your images seem to have this very unique glow to them. I dont know whether its the lighting or if its some kind of post processing, but you do it really well. Keep up the good work!
Nothing special. Nothing special. Nothing special.
Nothing special????!!!!!
5 stars. Noting special, only five.
Wow! Another masterpiece!
Wow that's amazing, I love your character work @ndy.
beautful picture there, @ndy. You're really someone to aspire to be like.
Looks realy great.
How long u needed to finish it ?
You said "just yet another image", sounds like it is a fast work :D

that is so awsome how long did it take for you to complete.
This one got me saying an audible "wow..."
You have done it again. Would you say that the orange experience tought you new techniques? ... saw you are using gimp now, even for post pro..
Anyway, great image, really like the ambiance.
Is he a friend (conceptually) of burning man ?
shul
That's not right:)!!!
I posted a new image and it has been appreciated. I thought it would have been added to the gallery...and...what happened?? @ndy posted this wind change guy!!!:mad:
that's not right:D
I'm just kidding
All your character are amazing.
This one is reaaly cool.
Thats so awesome.....Makes me wish I didnt suck at Blender :p
Wow, very well done. The modeling and texturing is brilliant, amazing lighting and concept as well. I'd say this is your best work so far, the mood and expression of the character is great.
Anychance of being able to see a wire?
@ndy, make your 1000th post already, geesh.

wow, thats really cool. Intersting creature and expression on his face. Great work... agian.

That is just wicked. I love the mood in this pic, very sensitive in its own way.
Hi @ndy,
great mood and lighting on this one! I like the contrast between the creature and the delicacy of the flower in his hand. I actually agree this is one of your best works if not the best work so far. You convey a great sense of the personality of the guy in this work which makes it enjoyable to look at again and again.
So yeah, indeed nothing special...
--- Elubie
Very striking image. The alien creature you created almost looks alive, like he/she could be an entity with their own thoughts. It looks like it's thinking about something pleasant, the way it's staring off into the distance...maybe a mate? ;)

How...
HOW!?
Simply the best I've ever seen on this site...
It got into the forum gallery I see, well no surpsise there. I gotta say, I love the details on the head. How did you do them? Maps? Or did you go the old school way and model them? :)
That is superb :) Great textures. Itīs just so well done.
Great render!!! Textures are beautifull.
You should post it on CGtalk.com.
Could you show mesh??
A very nice detailed render. I'm amazed about that render, not just the modeling, but the shaders are awesome. Every time @ndy postes up such renders, I can bash myself for ages for not being able to make such shaders and models. I'm have no idea why, but I know I have to catch @ndy one time at BConf (maybe 06) and lock him up somewere and only give him food when he learns me something awesome. :P
Awesome work @ndy, really nice, keep making such things cause it really inspires me and reminds me why I use blender. :)
superb! another fantastic render!
awesome character andy. i love that he has a lot of details, like wrinkles and veins.
the render itself may be your best you made.

@ndy is the grand king of all Blender work and you only need to look once to know that.;) :D

that makes two of us with such intentions :D
great work, amazing!
Ah... beautiful. What I like best is the expression, it defines the entire image. Amazing work.
I wonder if this image symbolizes a certain point of your life that you're going through?

Of course a certain point of his life. He snapped this photo, posted it here, then stepped back into his pantry and into the land of Snafflegonnes where he is talking to this guy.
Seriously though....88k stars from me!
nice one, @ndy, i like how you're combining 2d and 3d elements.

@ndy's characters are so lucky, they must have very stress free lives (this one seems to) as they never have bloodshot eyes, After Blendering for a few hours I usually do!
Oh yeah, and it looks amazing, but that goes without saying. Doesn't it?

This image is magnificant, but I am confused. I do not have enough experience to even qualify aa a N00b, but if your goal was to create a single magnificent image, why use blender at all? You could just use GIMP (or acrylic on canvass) and get the same effect. With blender. this same character can be viewed in many different posses, but the will achieve this magnificene only if your model is as perfect in those other perspectives as it is in this one.
So, did you create the model to achieve this particular image, or did you create a really great model and then select this image as a great result?
It's wonderful either way.
many 3d artists don't only see 3D for animation only. Some people want to achieve a certain realism to their picture which is not so easy with the GIMP (or other 2d programs). Also, some people don't like the painterly feel that you get from 2D pictures (me included), while some other people love it, and dislike the digital feel of 3D pictures.
For me, I would be content with creating stills, for now anyway. When I get better, I would probably go into animation. But have a look at his pictures, especially this one. They are highly detailed, and would take a whole lot of time just to animate it, create a nice environment (to achieve the artistic feel the same level that @ndy has here), and of course the render times would be a real pain.
I'm sure @ndy has his own reasons, as do most other people. Maybe he's just content with making magnificent stills?
If you're looking to be hired as a 3d modeler, you don't go create paintings for your portfolio do you?
The subject matter isn't as interesting as some of your other work, but you're usual texturing, modeling and lighting is pretty good. It's quite obviously an @ndy image. Props.
yeeha... active again :) I already told you, what i think about he render! Thats imo the best blender-render ive ever seen! thx 4 this great pic

Amazing! - I'm off to find the rest of your renders
I'm new all round so I haven't really fully explored the forums yet
Bout time I did I think
Oh yeah - Well done @ndy!
 I didn't even know you could do something like that in Blender. Like someone already said, post it on CGTalk or 3dtotal, you'll improve everyone's opinion on Blender :).

Wow, whenever @ndy feels bummed, he must come read the threads that grow after his posts :P It must make him all happy inside to have the complete admiration of the blender community.
I'll had to your little bag of happiness now:
I really like the image, it has a great mood to it, very dreamy and realistically surreal (is that correct? :D) but I think the eye as has been pointed out doesn't quite seem to fit the image. It's not so much the color to me as it is the fact that it seems to be closed a bit too small for such a gentle and benevolent looking organism, and it seems to have a bit too much gloss and lack of realism to me that doesn't seem consistent with the rest of the picture. I think a remedy for this would be a slight "dirtying" of the eyes with some small veins and coloring (take a look at some pics of real eyes, you'll see the slight discoloring around the iris and from the reflection near the lids, here is a good pic, be be warned he is wearing a contact http://narya.phys.cwru.edu/~pete/left_eye.jpg (note the slight blueing around the iris)).
Still an amazing work though, I really admire your talent.
WOW. flawless as usual.
Perfect lighting, modeling, textures, great attention to detail, i could go on. I think this is your best that i've seen.
i disagree about the eye, i think its great as it is, adds the "twinkle in his eye" effect that is so often talked about in books, and fits perfectly with his expression.
55 out of 5
great
