Really, really, nice render.
The only thing that bothers me in the slight is the amount of blur on the foremost tree (left tree), but that is a very minor issue.
Really good job!
I like the color shot a lot. Great composition
The black and white seems faded, I'd suggest adjusting the levels in the Gimp or maybe getting rid of the fog in front

Looks great! I definitely like the color one better.

I really like the color one. The trees seem way to similar though...almost like they are cloned. Very nice though.
I like the black&White one it reminds me of those old horror movies, its very "Hitchcock". i would suggest some film grain for effect (don't use the plug-in)
The picrues arn't working or me.
very very nice render - especially the lighting. Would you post a screeny of your lighting rig for that scene and maybe describe it a bit? I'm sure we could all learn alot.
Wow, thats really good! I too like the color one best.
The picrues arn't working or me. Let me guess, you use internet explorer right? its png-images you see.
Cool. Reminds me Tim Burton style... i mean Nightmare before christmas style.
Excellent work. No crits from me.

Those trees are identical.
But woah, nice image.
P
Stunning work! The mood and modeling of the image are awesome. Lighting is right on too. Only crit would be the identical blured trees as mentioned above
Great work!

really nice work and render, i like very much the details... the path... the moon, the shadow in the window, and the distortion on the house.. really cool...
i think the grass on the bottom left is a little SPIKIE :P... but everything is just awesome
congrats :)
awsome! Really nice textures and moddeling. Nice mood! Much better than a robosphere could ever develop :D

That is super-duper, one of my favourite renders I have seen in Blender. Great work!
splashscreen contest
Contest is over! You win.
looks great. I love the style and the modelling, although i think the trees could use another level of detail (smaller twigs and such), but i understand that would take forever. Great work

hey wow :o
thank you so much for you nice appreciations.
Yes I know the two trees are similar (I was really tired of fixing things in this render so I forgot:D)
I will try to write a little tut on this shene. As soon I'll finish it i will post a link.
I have to say that lots of people from some Italian forun (like www.kino3d.com www.blender.it) gave me some really good advices.
So, that's it

Color version looks great, but as soon as you get into black and white, tone and texture become very important. The black and white version is just too grey and too uniform -- not enough contrast.
With a color image, hue variation makes things stand out. In your color image, the moon stands out from the blue sky, and the subtle change between the abstract-ish green hills and the blue horizon really enhances the cartoon feel. The most important hue contrast, though, is the windows, whose light really stands out from the rest of the picture because nothing else is that same color. The first thing I look at is the house -- I want to see who that is at the window.
Your black and white version blows all that subtlety away, and replaces it with, well, nothing. It's grey, washed-out, and the composition is suddenly bland. The focus shifts from the house to the moon, because that is where the strongest contrast lies. The rest of the scene is uninteresting because nothing really stands out. The lights from the house no longer jump out, and the hills really start looking like giant eggs.
I'm trying to show that creating a good black and white image isn't as simple as completely desaturating a color image. Tonal and textural considerations are much more important in black and white, and you have neither of those. So while you did great work on your color version, your black and white version is really only a bastardization of it.
WOW
This is a really professional critic.
Well the B/W version is just a try of the node editor in the cvs version.
I attached it because I like it :)
I still like it, but I admit that the colour version is much better. Actually I did this job to be a coloured render:)
How did you model the tree?
I started modeling the tree with a plane and I did some extrusion.
Sometime I used the ctrl+left mouse botton (or right button? it depends on what is your mouse set up in the option panel)
and I did the DOF with this wonderfull tutorial

awesome work dude keep going ;)
Right, I see!
Extrusion.
That'll take quite some time then....
Ah yes I remember seeing this on CGTalk and wondering how it was done. Good work...sota reminds me of the art in Harry Potter books...hm...

Your image really reminded me of this:

Yep.
You are right. It is really similar in the concept.
Maybe this kind of concept is a stereotype in gothic fiction.
I've never seen it before. I swear. But anyway I didn't meant to be original I just wanted to render a good image.:D
Lovely image piro.. now where is scooby-Doo ? :p
have a nice day.
Excellent image. Seriously among the very best I have seen created with Blender. I agree that the BW image could use more contrast. What would make it really first rate would be if you could darken the trees in the foreground more, that would give it a lot more depth. In fact that would also help the colour image. The thing is you don't want the trees to be distracting from the focus of the picture. They should be framing elements.
Nevertheless, it's still totally incredible work. I love the modelling of the house and the textures and the stoney pathway and the overall atmosphere is terrific.
really really really good.
I love it and the DOF looks cool too
Keep up the good work
Thanks a lot guys.
Yep, I didn't spend much time on the trees. Now I could fix it but I want to keep the image as it is. I don't know why, but let's say that I like it even if it is not perfect.:D:D:D I'm lazy:D:D:D
I'm trying to make a tutorial on this scene, but untill now it is only in Italian and at a wip stage. Hope to translate it soon
You can alway have a look to images:D:D:D:D
