G'day.

My entry for WC 193, theme is expression.

Title: .... .. .... ... *

* which is mime for: "Mime is sooo sad"

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v483/sago/Mimeissooosad.jpg

Internal render, AO, Zblur, 2 arealamps with rayshadow, little colourcorrection in PostPro and stuff like that.

Hope you... uhm, like it?

I don't like it at all.

I LOVE IT!

Any chance of sharing the blend so I can look at it and learn from it? :)

Sweet modelling and crisp texturing, but what is the story of the picture? Why is he crying?

Looks like he died, not his friend.

The guy sleeping looks exacly the same shape =D

Very smooth looking picture, nonetheless.

dodgydavec, thanks. Don't think there's much to learn from my blend. besides, I wouldn't know where to put it online http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v483/sago/Pics/Emoticons/big_smile.gif

Woodman5k, thanks man. Yeah, not my best, but an annoying one to make none the less. My blenderskills are still not quite there yet.

Other people,
he's crying because someone died.
Wait, is he really crying? Mimes do (over) exaggerate... it's like acting, isn't it?
But still, someone is really dead. Can't he be grieving over that?
Dude, the black tear is painted on his face. Just look at his expression, it's fake.
Every person expresses him/herself in his/her own way.
Perhaps, but this one is just acting.... very badly, if I might say.
Are you sure about that? Maybe he doesn't know how to show his true feelings? And who are we to say how people should mourn someones death?
Uhm...

I guess I should've giving them more different characteristics, cause they're not the same person. They're 2 different models, but somehow while modeling they got too much similar looks.

Cheers,
Sago

Great concept. I agree with Woodman5k, not your best, but it's up there.

Now, can you tell me why you needed Zblur for this? I don't really see the requirement here, as it is very faint and to me, is just not needed for this, as there is really no BG to worry about acheiving the depth effect.

Hi BgDM,

Zblur is one of those things I use a lot to get a sort of photorealistic look, no matter how much the scene needs of it. You call it faint, I call it subtle. Some details can be so small, that it's possible you don't really see them (and therefor think the work doesn't need them). I believe it's those little details that give my work that little extra.

The Zblur worked quite well on some places. Like the lefthand and -ear of the mime, the coffin drapery behind the top of the dead man's head and best part, the coffin drapery that disappears at the bottom of the image (in front of the dead man's wrist).

So subtle is the key. just like I always am.... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v483/sago/Pics/Emoticons/smile.gif

Man, your work has this really distinctive style. It's sort of solid . . . like a touched-up photograph of clay sculptures. These things really look like they have weight and a physical texture you can feel (and a decomposing smell . . . hang on). Is it because you are awesome at all aspects of modelling and texturing and lighting? Or is it because you use AO and depth of field (and just suck at everything else)? Because if it's awesome skills then I can potentially learn them and use them, but if it's just raytracing . . . thhhbbtt.

Seriously, I think it's really cool. I really like your work.

ziet er neat uit Sago! De belichting maakt je renders heel dramatisch!

als finishing touch zou je mischien nog een spec map met fijne patroontjes op het laken kunnen doen, zo lijkt de stof wat dunner :)

keep it up!

This might sound odd, but the thing I like best about the picture are the hands. Everything else is nice, but for some reason I'm drawn to the hands of the mime and the dead guy in the image. Well done.

Rexprime, thanks. That's what I was aiming for.

LGM, well... uhm, thanks. If you call pushing some verts, placing an arealamp somewhere and slap on a texture (which I reuse in almost every work) awesome skills, then yeah, I guess I have some of it. Stuff like AO, Zblur and raytracing do what they need to do, so they're a big help too.
I don't really see myself as someone with great skills, just as a person who can visualize his concepts (which I find extremely important) simple yet effective with just minor blenderknowledge and -skills. Glad it's working, and that it has given me my own style.

Job, thanks boj, I mean boy.... uhm, dude? Lighting is getting pretty okay, I just hope I'm not repeating myself too much.
Yeah, the drapery cloth could've used better details and textures (along with some other stuff), but I was just glad I got it to look like this. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v483/sago/Pics/Emoticons/big_smile.gif

SpindleRift, thank you. I'm happy with the hands, though they're a bit limited; each hand misses one finger, and each finger misses a bone (phalanx?)....

Love y'all,
Sago
