Hi everyone!
It's my first post in Elysiun forum, I am a french Blender user and here is one of my current project.
(Mayby some people have ever seen one of my picture in Blender gallerie: Traction citroën (http://www.blender3d.com/cms/December_2005.739.0.html) )
droïd... (Blender+Yafray)

thats awesome!!! Really good modelling! :o :o You should pose him a bit 'cooler' tho :D Now it looks like he's stand-by.

I've got the sneaky suspicion that alt_ligury forgot to model an on/off switch on this fella. Hence the standby/hibernation mode. %|
Wonder if this thing will get rigged at any point...
you seem to have a unique style keep posting stuff

I am sorry but my English is very bad (for me, when I was young school boy, the English lessons always meant drawing lessons %| :-| and now I paid it! :| )
But if it's a question, yes, this robot is fully rigged (same fingers)
I have some video rushes but not space on Internet to host it! :-?

You can visit my homesite, there's a lot af different technics and styles for my works but i like this "soft style" with blender. ;) terrier-infographie.com (http://www.terrier-infographie.com)
Welcome to Elysiun ! It is great to have such great works showed here !
Your english is fine enough, don't worry ;) and keep posting your works.

thank you for your attention. ;)
Your Citroën car is very nice, congratulation!
Wow. Superb modeling and materials! Thumbs up
in french: Bienvenue. Ne t'en fait pas trop pour ton anglais. Il est parfaitement comprehensible et je doute quil pose probleme. Superbe comme boulot sinon
Now that is what I call a good first impression. Welcome!
Great model, and shading, etc. (they--^ already said it in more than one language).
I'm interested in what must be your yafray settings, materials and compositing technique used for the background. Could you comment a bit on them?
alt_ligury
18-Mar-06, 16:04
Ok! this is the Yafray settings:
http://host-images.surf-remunere.com/uploads/e61b2c0089.jpg
for the background it's a simple 3face (subsurf/catmullclark) mesh with lambert/cock shading (no spec, no hard).
And 5 differents Oren-Nayar/Blinn shaders whith differents value of ray mirror (0.03 -->1) for the droide.
just a spherical HDRI map for the GI light/reflection. ;)
thanks, impressive work alt_ligury, like the citroen.

This is, without a doubt, the BEST robot model I have ever seen. Ever.

Thank's! :-| ;)
5 posts and you've got my respect.

Great work - etre bien! Just have to echo the previous comments. Sleek design/nice mechanical proportion :)
Very brilliant! The reflections are just perfect. The pose looks good to me. I absolutely love this piece.
[OFF TOPIC]
If you want I can try to host some of the animations on my site. I have a ton of space. It's by no means a pro site, and I have done absolutely nothing to spruce it up, but I have a ton of space and I'm willing to share lol. The website is at Streen3D (www.streen3d.bravehost.com). I'll find the time to make it a little better later.
All those ball and cube posting blenderheads should take notes from this guy.
Welcome to elYsiun.
Keep up the fantasic works. :D
Holy Crap thats cool
ANIMATE ANIMATE ANIMATE IT PLEASE! that would look so cooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooool

AAAGH OMG AMAZING!!!! :o :o fantastic modelling
Hi,
This is really!! amazing!! I was impressed.
And thank you for the information of the setting.
It is good guidance.
I cant get over this! This is probaly some of the best modeling, lighting, and matrial use I have ever seen. I wish I had a fraction of your skills :(.
(PS......Why is it that French modelers are so good at modeling and stuff......But never make any video games :P)

a simple view of wire (subsurf=3)
(I'll post a little video of walkcycle soon, to illustrate that! ;) )

Damn fine work. Damn fine indeed. :D
Been wanting to do a droid of my own for some time now, but this is really excellent stuff for a first time post. Lot of care and attention paid to the construction of this thing. It shows.
The walk cycle is pretty decent too, though it's a tad too 'smooth' for my own personal taste. I always tend to associate machinery with complicated hydraulics to be a little jerky from time to time.
But I'm not gonna diss this.
Show us more :o stuff ;)

Great design, though I'm not sure about the head.
Great work - etre bien!
And exactly what were you doing during French class? :]

really nice reflections and "WOW!!-modeling" ;)
Very good walk-cycle (and scene/lighting/camera movement).
cant open the .avi :x
Did you download the codec (http://www.codec-download.com/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=getit&lid=378)?
I downloaded the codec and still no-go :(
Truly incredible work, i want more!
The still and the walk cycle look fantastic.
Please, post more!

Carbon some ubisoft ppl in france worked on some of the splinter cell games i think the 1st and 3rd
Wow. Really a good job. May I ask you how you got the rendering with the wire? Is it just a grab of the screen?
Thanks
the walk cycle is strange the knees are always bent
Man that model is awesome. And the animation was even better. The way the reflections are setup and the environment.. just pure amazing.
ahh just a beautiful design, really great =D
Good luck with your project!
Lee
ps. couldnt find anything to play it on linux, really curious to see walk cycle, so if you find time posting in .mov or a more universal codec such as DIVX I would be very grateful =)

Man, you are one of my new heros. Only the great LohnC made an elysiun entrace this good before you...Awesome!
Can't see the walkcycle (I'm under linux)
But I like the modelling/texturing of the robot.
really nice and original concept !!

29-Mar-06, 12:36
Thats a really nice model! If it has bones and armature done, you can make some really cool animations with that. Perhaps make a mars scene, stock up hundreds of those droids and make them walk like a massive army. Now that would be awesome!

All I can say is WOW. You should really try an animation with that thing.
Amazing work!
Just one thing, if you want to upload animations or anything, use any of these sites (free)

Me either! :(
I don't get the mar.avi.
direct link to animation howaver can be had here:

The animation is not stellar (he does not walk too physically correct) but the environment is very nice.
Nice chrome, bad plastic.
Otherwise neat.
Sweet! That's wicked sweet, alt_ligury! The animation is AMAZING!
J'aime vraiment ce droid ! Vous effectuez le travail très bon!
Bienvenue! j'espère que vous nous montrez davantage de vos modèles.
Mon Français est très mauvais. :-)
It looks great, welcome to elysiun. keep up the good work.

The force is strong with this one...
5 stars from me.
everything very proffessional and wonderfully executed. Modelling, animation and set design, texturing etc all looking great!
4 stars from me, if you do manage to get the time and energy to make a short with this quality I will talk Blenderartists into getting 6 stars even ;)
Top notch, congrats!
Great model and texturing indeed. About the walkcycle, I think it doesn't show the appropriate weight (such a machine should weight a lot, IMO).
Great animation and a really nice model!
I've got a question about rigging of the droid. How did you rig all the hydraulics so they stay in place and work correctly ? I wanted to make something similar and... well it didn't work that good :( Maybe you can help with my problem (http://blenderartists.org/forum/showthread.php?t=65549). I'm new to animation in Blender and couldn't find an answer to this anywhere...
Thx for reply
This thread is amazing.
The model in it self is outstanding, and the animations are just one great piece of art, beautifully executed.
5 stars from me, easily
I loved the model, I love the animations....YOUR AMAZING!

I have the same problem at start. I solve it with using "Track To" constraint but not only:
A--trackto-->B and B-->trackTo-->A (A=Cylinder, B=piston)
it make loop and it's not good, the assemblage is floating with nonsense! :(
Try 3 objet link like that:
A-- track to -->B and B--Trackto--->C (C is positioned at the start of A and A+C are parent to the same bone and B are parent to base bone)
http://host-images.surf-remunere.com/uploads/be113975e7.jpg
I hope You can understend me (sorry again for my english :( )
\(O u O)/ wow! Awesome!
~Misfit
Two words, beautiful and ... nah enough said. Five stars for the model. Only critisism comes from the walkcycle, which seems a bit too light for a heavy metal machine like that.
That's really nice. Really clean.

thx for the suggestion, haven't tried single chain of bones for the whole mechanics yet. I'll try it as soon as possible :]
cheers
Honestly? It looks like a mix between a battle droid (Star Wars) and a cylon (Battlestar Galactica) Fantastic work my friend. I love the limited color palette of grayish blue. How long have you been working with blender/3d?
Thats got to be one of the best renders i have seen so far.
like anthony said an animation would be really cool.
Incredible! I hope too be that good soon. A huge inspiration!
you should make a tutorial for it

Sir after seeing your site and seeing your work your style and your talent. Its a damn shame your stuff isn't displayed in a Museum or Gallery your talent outshines artwork that I've seen sell for millions.
Its a shame people cannot respect 3d art, Until they see the work it requires.

Thank's a lot ;)
A little update, it's a bio-mechanical character, and this thing is maybe the worst bio-hazard nightmare of a droid plasma brain.

fight!...:D
WOW.
That's very very impressive. I would say the lighting is a bit too dark, but it suits the mood perfectly, so no worries. Flawless design and animation. :)
did you use nurbs to model him
frodo2975
21-May-06, 22:38
Awesome! I really like the movement of him, very fluid. Have you considered doing a battle scene with him and the droid?

hu!hu!hu!... certainly! :D
I put a full light version (here ! (http://terrier.infographie.free.fr/index.php?id=446) or last post ) maybe it stay in dark for the final movie, but it's more comprehensive like this..

sounds good, can't wait for final movie
I can really see this super well done droid in an Unreal Tournament game.
great job!

Me wants it in UT
Awesome job!
Wow, thats amazing! i have been working on a kinda similar robot for a while, but i dont know if i should even post it, it pales in comparison.
COOL!!! That is one of the best looking machines I've seen!
Too bad I can't open any of the avi's here at school... I'll try them at home.

 It's the real mechanical engine who served to basis model for the final 3DModeling.
The movie was realized in an old french factory used to destroying recycled paper.
Sorry for the video link's (a lot of mouvment in my home galerie this last weeks ), now it's normaly repaired :o

as far as the tech anatomy goes i like it very much,
but as a copmlete pic,id like to see some more color variations in it,
perhaps some red or blue light sources.
overall very good work,3 stars from me.

That Shit Look's Nice!
Wow!:D Great work. I agree, the reflections are just perfect. But I think I see a window with someone wearing sunglesses in the right shoulder/chest in the reflection. Brilliant modelling!

Maybe i'm wrong. Kojima is at cgtalk. ;)

Try some dev tools like Microsoft DirectX 10 SDK and agular map, HDRI and LRNI algoritms, than ask yourself "What Happened With My Opterons?" haha.
it nice. what time used to rander .
But I think I see a window with someone wearing sunglesses in the right shoulder/chest in the reflection.
Looks like you found the only flaw in this render... It's the reflection of him holding a digital camera while taking a picture of a window, or perhaps a mirror.
