I just read about this contest over at http://www.CGtalk.com - see:

http://www.cgnetworks.com/alienware/

and

http://www.cgtalk.com/forumdisplay.php?s=8ec8d47c9469fcdcff0dc8d12bfbe77 5&forumid=114

Sounds like it could be a lot of fun as well as an excellent opportunity to show off Blender's capabilities and your creativity :D

There are some nice prizes for this one too, so check it out.

Thanks for posting that, broken. I noticed the contest terms are explained at this web page (http://www.cgnetworks.com/alienware/challenge.php).

No artist should ever enter any contest or submit any work anywhere place without a complete understanding of the terms under which that work is being submitted and how that work will be treated after submission whether or not the submission wins and/or gets published. The best thing to do is to find out all the facts first, ask questions, before submitting anything. ;) If still in doubt, the best thing may be not to submit at all.

skeletor. believe it or not, once you submit artwork (at most schools),it becomes property of the school. I never thought that was fair.

Read the terms carefully. You can still use your artwork in any way you like, except for selling it on to another third party. Alienware is only allowed to use it for promotions (ie backgrounds for magazine ads). The compo is a cheap way to get cool ad pics for Alienware's marketing division.

O yeah... when I was at the art academy I only found out in the last year I was there that officially all my work had become property of the academy.

A few students I knew had a helluvatime to get a statement from the academy that allowed them to publish and sell the work they did in their final year. Tricky business... Anything that has terms and conditions or contracts, you should always take a day or two to think it through before you enter... and read carefully, maybe even have a friend read it too.

On the other hand... there's little chance that you'd ever get in actual trouble, so you can just do whatever you like and in case all goes ballsup... well then you have a reason to seek some media attention which works only in your favour.
